GAME NOTES: The California Golden Bears host the Washington State Cougars at Haas Pavilion today, as they try to remain all alone atop the Pac-10 standings.
On Thursday, the Bears played their first home game in several weeks and used the support of their fans to capture an 93-81 victory over a surging Washington club. It marked the 12th win in 13 home games for Cal, which remains in sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 at 8-4. There is little margin for error though, as four other teams sit just one game back in the loss column.
The Cougars meanwhile, are fading away with losses in four of their last five outings. The team most recently dropped a narrow 60-58 decision at Stanford on Thursday to fall to 15-9 overall and just 5-7 within the conference.
As for the all-time series, California holds a 71-45 advantage over WSU and the Bears won a 93-88 shootout in the first meeting of the season.
Stanford's Jeremy Green hit a shot with 4.6 seconds left, sending WSU to a heart-breaking, 60-58, loss on Thursday. It was complete meltdown for the Cougars, who led 44-26 with just over 10 minutes to play. Klay Thompson guided the team in the loss with 19 points and four helpers, while DeAngelo Casto notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. For the season, Thompson is averaging a hardy 21.1 ppg to lead WSU and he is also pulling down 4.8 rpg. Reggie Moore comes in with 13.8 ppg and a team-high 4.3 apg for the Cougars, while Casto tacks on 10.1 ppg and a team-best 7.2 rpg.
California shot a solid 51.7 percent from the field and went an efficient 25- of-27 at the foul line, as it outlasted Washington on Thursday. Jerome Randle poured in 33 points to lead the charge, while Jamal Boykin had a double-double of 20 points and 11 boards. One of the most dangerous players in the Pac-10, Randle leads Cal in scoring (19.7 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg), while also shooting 40.0 percent from long range and 91.6 percent at the charity stripe. Patrick Christopher is another solid scorer at 16.1 ppg, and Theo Robertson adds 14.1 ppg and 4.7 rpg to the mix. Boykin chips in with 11.3 ppg and he is the team's leading rebounder at 6.4 rpg.
The Bears continue to prove they are the team to beat in the Pac-10 and Randle and company should have their way today with a struggling WSU squad.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
