GAME NOTES: Horizon League foes meet in the Motor City today, as the Detroit Titans play host to the Milwaukee Panthers.
Milwaukee has suffered three consecutive defeats to fall to 13-12 overall and 5-8 in Horizon play. The Panthers were most recently in action on Thursday when they dropped a 68-63 decision to Wright State on the road. They are now 4-7 in true road games.
As for Detroit, it has lost three of its last four games to fall to 15-11 overall and 7-7 in league action. The Titans dropped a heart-breaking 64-62 decision to Green Bay on Thursday, and it is certainly noteworthy that the last seven losses suffered by the club have come five or fewer points.
Detroit recorded an 81-65 victory in the first meeting of the season with Milwaukee, cutting the Panthers' lead to 17-16 in the all-time series.
Ricky Franklin has started all 25 games for Milwaukee, and the same can be said for teammate James Eayrs. Franklin is scoring 14.7 ppg, and Eayrs provides 12.2 ppg. The Panthers are generating 69.3 ppg while allowing 68.0 ppg to opponents. In the five-point loss to Wright State, Eayrs scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. Ja'Rob McCallum checked in with 17 points for Milwaukee, which earned a 35-24 rebounding advantage in that tilt. Unfortunately, the Panthers did not get the job done at the defensive end, as they permitted the Raiders to shoot 51 percent from the field. They also turned the ball over five more times than Wright State, a big deal in a close game.
Chase Simon is averaging 15.0 ppg this season for Detroit as the team's leading offensive performer, and Xavier Keeling adds 12.7 ppg. Thomas Kennedy provides 11.4 ppg, and Eli Holman rounds out a foursome of double-digit scorers with 11.2 ppg and 8.2 rpg. Holman has also blocked 61 shots and is shooting 61.9 percent from the field. The Titans are generating 71.2 ppg through 26 contests, and they are limiting opponents to 66.0 ppg on 41 percent shooting. Against Green Bay two days ago, both Kennedy and Simon scored 15 points, while Keeling needed 14 points to go along with 13 rebounds and four steals. Unfortunately for the Titans, they connected on a mere 36.5 percent of their field goal attempts, including 3-of-12 from three-point range.
The Titans handled the Panthers easily on the road in the first meeting, so there is no reason to expect anything different in Detroit today.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
