GAME NOTES: The Wofford Terriers will be looking to strengthen their position in the Southern Conference South Division race when they travel to Samford to face the Bulldogs.
Wofford comes in off a 78-65 win at Furman on Wednesday night. It was the Terriers' fifth straight win and lifted them to 18-8 overall. Wofford is 10-3 in SoCon play and sits in second place in the South Division, but even in the loss column with division-leading College of Charleston. The Terriers are a solid 7-6 on the road this season.
Samford was a winner at Chattanooga on Wednesday by a margin of 78-54.The win snapped a five-game losing streak. The Bulldogs are 10-15 overall and are tied for fifth in the SoCon's North Division with a 4-9 mark. Samford is 6-5 at the Hanna Center this season.
This will mark just the fourth meeting all-time between the two schools. Wofford leads the series 2-1 after winning two meetings last season.
Jamar Diggs and Noah Dahlman scored 17 points apiece for Wofford in its win on Wednesday. Cameron Rundles added 11 points. The Terriers trailed 30-29 at halftime, but shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor in the second half. They also outrebounded Furman 40-26. Dahlman is the Terriers' leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. He ranks fourth in the conference in scoring and ninth in rebounding. He is shooting 58.4 percent from the floor, but just 66.9 percent from the foul line. Brad Loesing is averaging 3.3 assists per game, good for ninth in the conference. Diggs is providing 2.7 apg. As a team, the Terriers are scoring 69.4 ppg, shooting 43.7 percent from the floor, but just 66.6 percent from the foul line.
Josh Davis scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Samford on Wednesday night. Jeffrey Merritt added 13 points and six boards, while Trey Montgomery provided 10 points. Samford built a 38-22-halftime lead, then shot 75.0 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes. Overall, Samford shot 61.0 percent from the floor and was 15-of-24 from long range. Davis leads the club in scoring at 13.2 ppg, good for 10th in the conference. He's hitting 44.0 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent from long range. Davis is also shooting 76.8 percent at the foul line and pulling down a team-high 4.1 rpg. Montgomery is averaging 10.6 ppg, plus 2.9 assists per game, while Bryan Friday is at 10.3 ppg. The Bulldogs are scoring 57.1 ppg, while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor. They're giving up just 59.5 ppg at the other end to rank 11th nationally.
Wofford is looking to secure its hold on second place in the South Division and a first-round bye in the conference tournament. The Terriers' guard play gives them the edge in this one.
