GAME NOTES: The Florida State Seminoles welcome the Boston College Eagles to Tallahassee for tonight's ACC showdown at the Tucker Center.
The Seminoles have gone just 2-3 over their last five outings and they now sit at just 5-5 within the ACC. On Wednesday, the team took to the road and came up short, 77-67, at Clemson. Now at 17-7 overall, FSU returns back to the Tucker Center, where it has gone a successful 11-2 thus far.
As for the Eagles, they enter the tilt mired in a three-game slide. The most recent of those losses came on Tuesday, a 92-85 setback at Wake Forest. It was the fourth loss in five ACC road games for BC, which is now 12-12 overall and a dismal 3-7 in league play.
BC leads the head-to-head series with FSU, 4-2, but the Seminoles scored a 61-57 decision in the first meeting of the season.
Defense was an issue on Tuesday for the Eagles, as they allowed Wake to shoot 57.4 percent from the floor and score 46 points in the paint of a 92-85 defeat. Tyler Roche poured in a career-high 31 points and snared seven caroms in the loss, while Corey Raji notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Roche was playing in place of Joe Trapani, who was out due to illness. Trapani still remains the team's leading scorer (14.4 ppg) on the campaign and is listed as questionable for tonight. Reggie Jackson, a jack of all trades, adds 13.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg and a 4.0 apg to the rotation for BC. Raji tacks on 11.8 ppg and a team-best 6.6 rpg, while Rakim Sanders chips in with 10.9 ppg.
The Seminoles shot a lackluster 37.9 percent from the field, including just a 6-of-22 showing from beyond the arc, as they were downed at Clemson earlier in the week. The team was also outscored at the foul line, 29-17, and outrebounded, 38-34, in the 10-point setback. Luke Loucks guided the team in the loss with 15 points and six assists, while Solomon Alabi notched 14 points and five boards. Alabi is the team's leading scorer on the campaign with an average of 12.7 ppg and he also pulls in a solid 7.0 rpg. Chris Singleton provides a nice complement to Alabi and he comes in with 10.6 ppg and a team- high 7.4 rpg.
FSU has had good success at home this season and should be able to clamp down on defense en route to a win over BC tonight.
