Siena (21-5) at Canisius (12-14)

GAME NOTES: With their lengthy win streak now history, the Siena Saints try to get back into the win column today as they challenge the Canisius Golden Griffins in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at the Koessler Center in Buffalo, New York.

On Friday night, the Saints watched their 15-game win streak come to an end as they bowed to Niagara on the road in an 87-74 final. Despite the loss, the Saints still captured the outright MAAC regular-season title due to the fact that Manhattan topped Iona the same night.

As for the Golden Griffs, now a game under .500 in league play at 7-8, they began their three-game homestand on Friday night with a 71-56 win over a weak Marist program. The victory snapped a three-game slide for Canisius.

The Saints won the first meeting of the season with Canisius at home by a score of 82-70 last month, which means the all-time series now favors Siena by a count of 46-36.

Siena shot just 39.5 percent from the field in the first half on Friday night and then hit a mere 1-of-7 beyond the arc and 8-of-15 at the free-throw line in the second half as the Saints suffered their first loss in quite some time. Ryan Rossiter registered a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Edwin Ubiles posted 12 points as the only double-digit scorers in the setback. Ubiles is currently the second-leading scorer on the team with his 15.5 ppg, having made goof on more than 40 percent of his three-point tries. Alex Franklin posts 15.9 ppg, Rossiter 14.5 ppg and a team-best 10.5 rpg to give the Saints a presence in the paint. Throw in Clarence Jackson with his 13.5 ppg and the Saints have one of the top scoring attacks in the MAAC.

Frank Turner put together a strong effort as he posted 16 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds on Friday night as the Golden Griffs picked up the win against Marist at home. Also recording a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards was Tomas Vazquez-Simmons, the big man adding six blocked shots as well. Julius Coles and Greg Logins logged 18 and 16 points, respectively as the team got away with just 38.9 percent shooting from the floor. Turner leads the unit on the season in scoring (16.8 ppg), assists (138) and steals (56) and is also one of its top rebounders with more than five per game. Coles accounts for 15.1 ppg as the top three-point performer with 56 triples.

Now that Siena's run has been snapped, the pressure is certainly off the Saints and they can get back to winning games.
