GAME NOTES: Mid-American Conference action will take place this afternoon in Ypsilanti, when the Eastern Michigan Eagles host the Western Michigan Broncos at the Convocation Center.
The last time the Broncos were on the floor the team suffered a 90-74 setback to Ohio. It was the fourth loss in the last six games for Western Michigan, which is just 5-6 in conference play.
As for the Eagles, they fell to 4-7 in league play with an 84-67 loss to Buffalo in their last matchup. It was the fourth setback in the last six matchups for EMU, which is a solid 8-3 at home this year.
The Broncos have dominated EMU over the past few seasons, winning five straight meetings and 17 of the last 19 showdowns. Earlier this season WMU pushed its edge over EMU in the all-time series to 52-44 with a 61-47 decision.
The Broncos have relied heavily on the play of David Kool, who is clearly one of the best players in the MAC. Kool comes into this matchup averaging 21.0 ppg. Martelle McLemore is contributing 12.0 ppg and 5.7 rpg for WMU, which is producing a mediocre 69.6 ppg. The last time the Broncos were on the floor the team scored a respectable 74 points, but still lost to Ohio by a 16-point margin. Western Michigan shot 42.4 percent from the floor and was led by McLemore, who tallied 24 points. As for Kool, he finished with 19 points after shooting 6-of-18 from the field.
The Eagles shot 52.2 percent from the floor in their last matchup, but still fell to Buffalo by a 17-point margin. Brandon Bowdry led the way in the setback with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Carlos Medlock and Antonio Green tallied 14 and 12 points, respectively. Bowdry has been the best player on the floor for Eastern Michigan, leading the team with 16.4 ppg and 9.9 rpg. Medlock is contributing 15.7 ppg and has dished out 84 assists, while Justin Dobbins is posting 11.6 ppg for Eastern Michigan, which as a whole is netting 66.1 ppg
The Eagles have been wildly inconsistent throughout the season, but the team has played well at home and should continue to do so this afternoon against the Broncos.
