GAME NOTES: The Gentry Center will be the stage for an Ohio Valley Conference tilt, as the Tennessee State Tigers host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles this evening.
The last time the Golden Eagles were in action the team grabbed a 70-61 victory over Tennessee-Martin. The win snapped the team's three-game losing skid, and pushed Tennessee Tech's conference ledger to 7-8 on the year.
As for the Tigers, they have won back-to-back matchups, defeating Tennessee- Martin (74-68) and Austin Peay (76-67). With the small win streak the Tigers now have three victories in league play.
The Golden Eagles grabbed a 61-56 victory over Tennessee State earlier this season and now own a 26-23 edge over the Tigers in the all-time series.
The Golden Eagles come into this game producing 74.8 ppg, behind a 47.6 percent shooting effort. Kevin Murphy is leading the team with 15.0 ppg, while Frank Davis is netting 14.5 ppg. Elijah Muhammad is contributing 11.7 ppg, and is also dishing out 4.4 apg. The last time the Golden Eagles were on the floor the team only shot 40.4 percent from the floor, but connected on 28-of-39 attempts from the foul line, en route to a victory over UT-Martin. Davis led the way with 19 points in the matchup, while Alfred Jones tallied 13 points and nine rebounds. Muhammad helped out with 11 points and six boards in the win.
The Tigers shot 44.2 percent from the floor in their last matchup, as they grabbed a shocking victory over Austin Peay. TSU also made 10-of-26 attempts from behind the arc, and connected on 20-of-27 attempts from the charity stripe. Jeremiah Crutcher led the way with 22 points in the contest, while Robert Covington added 17 points. Jacquan Nobles tallied 15 points, while Wil Peters contributed 12 points and six assists. Nobles is currently pacing the team on the season with 11.1 ppg, while Covington is netting 10.3 ppg, to go along with 6.0 rpg. As a whole, the Tigers have been inconsistent at the offensive end of the court, as the team is producing just 65.8 ppg.
The Tigers have played well of late, but they clearly have suffered through a tough season, and will likely land back in the loss column against a dangerous Tennessee Tech squad.
