Virginia (14-8) at Maryland (16-7)

GAME NOTES: The Maryland Terrapins welcome the Virginia Cavaliers to the Comcast Center in College Park for tonight's ACC battle. This contest was originally supposed to be played last Wednesday, but inclement weather forced the postponement.

Virginia has suffered two overtime losses in the last five outings, and the last two games overall have resulted in defeat. The Cavaliers fell to rival Virginia Tech on Saturday by a 61-55 final, but they are still 14-8 overall and 5-4 in ACC action. The hope tonight is that they can improve a 2-4 mark in true road games.

As for Maryland, it carried a modest two-game win streak into Saturday's meeting with Duke on the road. Unfortunately, the Terps were clearly outclassed in a 77-56 loss to the Blue Devils. They are now 16-7 overall and 6-3 in conference, and they carry a stellar 11-1 home mark into this evening's affair.

The Terps own a 103-67 series lead over the Cavaliers, and the teams split a pair of meetings last season.

Through 22 games, Virginia is generating 68.9 ppg while allowing 61.0 ppg to opponents on 42.3 percent shooting from the field. The Cavaliers are getting 18.0 ppg from Sylven Landesberg, who is the club's go-to guy at the offensive end of the floor. Mike Scott is the only other double-digit scorer in the fold with 13.4 ppg, and he is tops on the boards with 7.7 rpg. Scott was outstanding in the rivalry game against Virginia Tech on Saturday, as he posted 20 points and 13 rebounds. As for Landesberg, he finished with 17 points, but his 7-of-19 shooting from the floor was far from impressive. The Cavs connected on only 32.8 percent of their field goal attempts, including a 3-of-18 effort from three-point range. The poor shooting overshadowed a strong defensive showing.

Greivis Vasquez is the top performer for Maryland this season, as the standout point guard is averaging 18.0 ppg to go along with 142 assists. Landon Milbourne and Eric Hayes have started all 23 games alongside Vasquez, and they are netting 13.9 ppg and 11.0 ppg, respectively. Sean Mosley provides 11.2 ppg as the fourth and final double-digit scorer for Maryland, which is generating 79.1 ppg while allowing 65.5 ppg on 37.3 percent shooting by its opponents. Vasquez posted 17 points against Duke on Saturday, and Cliff Tucker added 12 points. The Terps shot just 37.7 percent from the floor in that contest, including 2-of-13 from three-point range. They were outrebounded by seven boards and outscored 18-8 from the foul line.

Maryland will win this tilt, as the team will play off energy supplied by the home crowd. Expect Vasquez to lead the way, as usual.
