GAME NOTES: The final homestand of the regular season for the Green Bay Phoenix includes a visit from the Cleveland State Vikings for a Horizon League battle tonight at the Resch Center.
Green Bay, which could still host a game during the upcoming Horizon League Tournament, had a two-game win streak snapped on Saturday with a 67-54 loss to Wright State on the road. The decision dropped the team to 9-6 in conference play.
As for the Vikings, who are currently 9-5 against the rest of the league, they too had a win streak snapped over the weekend, although their's was a six-game run that was halted by Butler as the Bulldogs logged their 15th win in a row with a 70-59 decision.
The Phoenix lead the all-time series with Cleveland State by a count of 35-24 entering this meeting.
Cleveland State had won 14 straight home conference games heading into last weekend, but nationally-ranked Butler had something to say about that as the Bulldogs ran the nation's best overall win streak to 15 in a row with the 11- point win at the Wolstein Center. Norris Coles scored a team-best 17 points for the Vikings, followed by D'Aundray Brown and Jeremy Montgomery with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Cole, who ranks 16th in school history with his 1,087 points, has played in 97 straight games for the program, with 63 consecutive starts, so it is easy to see why he currently leads CSU in scoring with his 16.5 ppg, more than five points per game over his career average. Montgomery accounts for 12.9 ppg as the team puts up 67.1 ppg while holding opponents to 64.5 ppg.
Green Bay opened up the game against Wright State rather strong, leading by as many as nine points barely four minutes into the first half, but in the end the Phoenix failed to get much support from the reserves in the 13-point road loss. Rahmon Fletcher tallied a team-best 14 points and handed out five assists, but he also turned the ball over five times, while Bryquis Perine tacked on 11 points. Fletcher is one of three players scoring in double figures at the moment for Green Bay with his 16.1 ppg, followed by Perine (13.0 ppg) and Troy Cotton (12.1 ppg), the latter being one of the most productive deep threats in the conference with his 78 triples over the course of 27 starts. As a unit, the Phoenix are shooting just under 40 percent from three-point range for the season.
Cleveland State showed some fight in the battle with the Bulldogs over the weekend, but perhaps that contest took a little too much out of the Vikings, thus keeping them from being competitive tonight on the road.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
