GAME NOTES: The TCU Horned Frogs shoot for back-to-back wins for the first time since the opening week of the new calendar year as they welcome the San Diego State Aztecs to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth for a Mountain West Conference battle.
The Horned Frogs, who entered the week in seventh place in the MWC, have won two of their last three outings thanks to a 76-68 triumph over the Wyoming Cowboys on the road on Saturday.
As for the Aztecs, they topped their second ranked opponent of the season on Saturday with a 68-58 decision versus No. 23 UNLV at home, moving the squad to an impressive 12-1 in its own building in 2009-10. It is just the fourth time in school history that SDSU has managed to knock off a pair of ranked teams in the same season.
SDSU holds an 8-4 edge in the all-time series with the Horned Frogs, thanks to a 67-62 win at Viejas Arena last month to give the Aztecs their third straight win over TCU.
Billy White scored 19 points, his best effort since returning from injury, while Kawhi Leonard posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, on his way to being named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. Also hitting for double digits were guards Chase Tapley and D.J. Gay with 11 points apiece as the squad overcame 18 turnovers and 5-of-14 shooting behind the three-point line. Leonard, who is shooting a feeble 17.9 percent behind the three-point line at the moment, leads the program in both scoring (12.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.7 rpg) even while fouling out of a pair of games. Another hard worker in the paint is Malcolm Thomas with 10.2 ppg and 8.0 rpg, his efforts on the glass helping to give SDSU a 7.8 rpg advantage over the competition.
Nikola Cerina led a quartet of double-digit scorers on Saturday as he dropped in 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in TCU's win over Wyoming on the road. Ronnie Moss came off the bench for a change and logged 15 points and four assists, while Greg Hill and Edvinas Ruzgas posted 12 and 10 points, respectively. In addition to shooting 8-of-17 from three-point range on the afternoon, the Frogs also held the home team to just 3-of-11 out on the perimeter. Moss, who had started 25 straight for TCU before playing in a reserve role over the weekend, remains the top scorer for the program with his 14.4 ppg, even though he is shooting only 39.2 percent from the floor. More importantly, he continues to add to his passing stats and now has 166 assists on the campaign and that has him averaging 6.4 apg to rank fourth in the nation entering the week. Ruzgas, who is now the only player to have started every game for the Frogs, is tossing in 11.2 ppg as a 42.5 percent shooter beyond the arc.
Getting by UNLV was just a formality for the Aztecs and now they have an easier target in the Horned Frogs, even if the meeting is in Fort Worth.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
