GAME NOTES: Old Dominion will try to remain flawless at home, when the Monarchs host the Towson Tigers this evening in a Colonial Athletic Association tilt at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The last time the Tigers were on the floor the team needed overtime to get past Georgia State by a 74-69 margin. It was the third win in the last five games for Towson, which is just 4-11 in CAA play.
As for the Monarchs, they are 13-0 at home this season and currently have the third longest home winning streak in the nation at 21 games. The Monarchs are currently tied with Northeastern for the lead in the CAA with a 12-3 ledger after defeating George Mason in their last matchup, 76-60.
The Monarchs have dominated Towson through the years, winning 21 of the 22 matchups against the Tigers.
It took an extra five minutes, but the Tigers were able to earn their fourth league win with a five-point victory over Georgia State. Towson shot 48.1 percent from the field in the matchup and finished 20-of-24 from the foul line. RaShawn Polk led the way with 17 points, while Josh Brown tallied 15 points. Isaiah Philmore posted 13 points, while Robert Nwankwo contributed 12 points, 12 boards and five blocks. On the season, the team is netting 67.4 ppg. Calvin Lee is currently pacing the squad with 11.1 ppg, while Josh Thornton is helping out with 10.9 ppg. Nwankwo is p acing the team in the paint, as the big man is netting 10.1 ppg, to go along with 9.4 rpg.
The Monarchs simply dominated George Mason in their last matchup, as Old Dominion shot 45.5 percent from the floor, en route to a 16-point win. Ben Finney led the way with 19 points and seven assists, and also grabbed seven rebounds. Gerald Lee added 16 points, while Marsharee Neely tallied 12 points. Frank Hassell posted 10 points and nine boards in the win. On the season the team is being led by Lee, who is averaging 14.0 ppg, to go along with 5.2 rpg. The team as a whole however, is producing just 66.3 ppg. Fortunately ODU has been sensational at the defensive end of the floor, holding opponents to just 55.4 ppg.
The Monarchs are simply better than the Tigers at both ends of the court and should have no trouble remaining perfect at home with a win here.
