(23) Wake Forest (18-5) at Virginia Tech (20-4)

GAME NOTES: The 23rd-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Virginia Tech Hokies are slated to collide in Blacksburg tonight in ACC action.

The Demon Deacons are playing tremendous ball right now, as they have won their last four games to move to 18-5 overall and 8-3 in conference. The team's most recent triumph occurred on Saturday in a 75-64 final over Georgia Tech, a satisfying win considering the fact that the Yellow Jackets crushed the Deacs by 21 points just three weeks ago.

Just like Wake Forest, Virginia Tech has won four in a row, and the Hokies have reached the 20-win plateau. They are 7-3 in conference after posting a 61-55 triumph over rival Virginia on Saturday, and will attempt to remain unbeaten at home this evening.

Wake Forest owns a 26-25 series edge over Virginia Tech, but the Hokies have won the last two meetings.

Al-Farouq Aminu is scoring 16.5 ppg for Wake Forest this season, and he is ripping down 10.9 rpg to go along with 36 blocks and 35 steals. The Demon Deacons are also getting 13.0 ppg from Ishmael Smith, who has dished out 140 assists to complement 43 steals. The third and final double-digit scorer in the fold is C.J. Harris with 10.7 ppg. The Deacs are outrebounding foes by 5.2 rpg and are generating 75.3 ppg while holding opponents to 67.6 ppg. Aminu scored 19 points and ripped down 10 rebounds for Wake in the victory over Georgia Tech last time out. Smith had 10 points and eight assists, while Ari Stewart and Tony Woods both tallied 10 points as well. Wake Forest played tremendous team defense, limiting the Yellow Jackets to 34.5 percent shooting from the floor.

Like the Demon Deacons, the Hokies have three double-digit scorers in the fold. Malcolm Delaney is posting 19.7 ppg for Virginia Tech, and he has dished out 96 assists. Dorenzo Hudson provides 13.8 ppg, and Jeff Allen adds 11.6 ppg and 7.3 rpg. The Hokies are averaging 72.0 ppg through 24 contests, and they are holding opponents to 61.1 ppg on 38.9 percent field goal efficiency. Against Virginia three days ago, Hudson scored 15 points, while Delaney and Allen pitched in 13 points apiece. The Hokies played solid defense, holding the Cavaliers to 32.8 percent shooting from the field. A 16-10 edge in points from the foul line also helped the cause.

In a battle of two hot teams, Virginia Tech gets the edge solely because of its unblemished home record.
