GAME NOTES: A pivotal Colonial Athletic Association bout will take place this evening when the George Mason Patriots host the William & Mary Tribe at the Patriot Center.
The Tribe cruise into this matchup riding a three-game winning streak. The last time William & Mary was on the floor the team grabbed a thrilling, 53-52 victory over Northeastern. The win over the Huskies pushed the team's league mark to 10-5 on the year.
The last time the Patriots were on the floor the team suffered a 76-60 loss to Old Dominion. It was the third loss in the last four games for George Mason, which is now 11-4 in conference action.
In regard to the all-time series between the two schools on the hardwood, the Patriots hold a 35-26 edge over William & Mary.
The Tribe have relied heavily on two players this season, and David Schneider and Quinn McDowell have played well enough to get William & Mary in the win column more often than not. Schneider is currently leading the team with 15.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while McDowell is contributing 14.3 ppg. The last time William & Mary was in action the team only scored 53 points, but still managed to grab a victory over Northeastern. The Tribe shot 41.3 percent from the floor in the matchup and were led by Danny Sumner, who posted 14 points. Schneider added 11 points, while McDowell posted just six points and nine rebounds.
The last time out, the Patriots suffered a 16-point loss to Old Dominion. George Mason shot 44.4 percent from the field, but finished 6-of-17 from long range and also committed 18 turnovers. Andre Cornelius led the way with 13 points, while Luke Hancock added 10 points off the bench. Cam Long however, struggled in the contest, finishing with five points on a 1-of-8 clip from the floor. Despite the poor showing Long is still leading the team at the offensive end of the court and is netting 13.2 ppg, and 82 assists.Ryan Pearson is the only other player posting double figures and comes into this game with 11.8 ppg for GMU, which as a whole is producing 66.8 ppg.
The Patriots have hit a wall recently, but look for them to bounce back in the win column at home where they are 11-1 on the season.
