GAME NOTES: The Auburn Tigers have traveled the Gainesville for an SEC clash with the Florida Gators.
Two of the last three outings have resulted in overtime losses for Auburn, dropping the team to 12-13 overall and 3-7 in league play. Last Saturday, the Tigers had nothing left in the extra session against Mississippi State, falling to the Bulldogs in an 85-75 final. Auburn carries a 2-6 record in true road games into tonight's affair and has little reason for confidence.
As for Florida, it has lost two in a row to fall to 17-8 on the season, including 6-4 versus SEC competition. Considered to be "on the bubble" in regard to the upcoming NCAA Tournament, Florida dropped a 76-64 decision to Xavier last Saturday in front of a disappointed home crowd, but the squad is still 11-3 at home to date.
Auburn owns an 87-68 series advantage over Florida, which includes a 61-58 victory over the Gators in the SEC Tournament last season.
Leading the way for Auburn is DeWayne Reed, who brings 15.7 ppg and 4.3 apg to the floor. Lucas Hargrove, a 6-6 senior forward, provides 14.0 ppg and 7.4 rpg, while Tay Waller contributes 13.5 ppg. Rounding out a foursome of double- digit scorers is Frankie Sullivan with 13.2 ppg. Through 25 games, Auburn is generating 75.7 ppg while allowing 73.5 ppg to its opponents. Waller came through with 21 points against Mississippi State last time out, while Hargrove had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Reed tallied 13 points for the Tigers, who missed all nine of their field goal attempts in overtime. A 16-8 deficit in points from the foul line also hurt the cause.
All five Florida starters are averaging double figures in the scoring department this season. Kenny Boynton continues to lead the way with 14.0 ppg despite the fact that he is only a freshman. Sophomore Erving Walker pitches in 13.1 ppg and 5.2 apg, and the other three starters are all juniors. Alex Tyus contributes 12.6 ppg and 7.1 rpg, and Chandler Parsons adds 11.2 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Vernon Macklin rounds out the group with 10.0 ppg from his center position. The Gators are generating 71.9 ppg while permitting 64.2 ppg to foes. In last weekend's loss to Xavier, the Gators connected on only 36.4 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, including 2-of-12 from three-point range. A 44-36 disadvantage in rebounding hurt the cause as well.
Expect Florida to get the job done at home tonight in what figures to be an entertaining ball game. The Gators are still a year away from a return to excellence, but they are formidable nonetheless.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
