California (17-8) at Oregon State (11-13)

GAME NOTES: Still clinging to first place, the California Golden Bears make their way to Corvallis for tonight's Pac-10 affair against the Oregon State Beavers at Gill Coliseum.

The Pac-10 race has been wide open all season long and Cal has enjoyed its stay atop the standing at 9-4. The team however, has no room for a slip up, as Cal is ahead by just one game in the loss column on both Arizona State and USC. The Bears are currently riding their third three-game winning streak of the season and that includes an 86-70 triumph of Washington State on Saturday. Cal is now 17-8 overall and making a strong case for a NCAA Tournament selection if the team was to falter in the Pac-10 tourney.

On the flip side, OSU is coming off a noticeable win, as it defeated Arizona, 63-55, in Tucson for the first time in 27 years on Saturday. It marked the third win in five games for the Beavers, who are now 11-13 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

As far as the all-time series goes, Cal owns a 75-58 lead over OSU and that takes into account a 65-61 win in the first meeting of the campaign.

The Bears shot 58.6 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes and scored the last 15 points of the game, as they rallied past WSU over the weekend. Cal, which outscored the Cougars 52-25 in the second half, also knocked down 10-of-21 three-pointers in the win. Jerome Randle buried 6-of-9 long-range buckets on his way to 24 points, while Patrick Christopher turned in 19 points. A terrific three-point (.414) and free-throw (.919) shooter, Randle averages 19.8 ppg and 4.6 apg to pace Cal in both departments this season. Christopher is another solid scorer at 16.2 ppg and he also has 5.4 rpg and a team-high 43 steals to his credit. Theo Robertson tacks on 13.7 ppg and 4.7 rpg for the Bears, while Jamal Boykin adds 11.6 ppg and a team-high 6.6 rpg to the rotation.

The Beavers forced 14 turnovers and held Arizona to a lackluster 39.6 percent shooting effort from the floor, as OSU picked up its first win in Tucson since 1983. Offensively, Roeland Schaftenaar led the way with 14 points, while Calvin Haynes and Seth Tarver chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Haynes is the team's top scorer on the campaign at 13.0 ppg and he is a 39.0 percent three-point shooter. Seth Tarver follows with 10.5 ppg, but he trails nobody on the roster with 4.8 rpg and 56 steals.

Cal has the more explosive scorers on its side and that should help it slip past OSU in a game that could be a trap for the Bears.
