GAME NOTES: The Portland State Vikings try to halt a three-game slide tonight as they take on the Northern Arizona Vikings in a Big Sky Conference matchup at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff.
PSU's current slide began with an 80-77 setback to Seattle at home and continued with an 81-76 loss to Montana and then a 79-71 defeat at the hands of Montana State last Saturday. As a result, Portland State is now just 5-7 in conference.
As for the Lumberjacks, they've lost four in a row after winning four straight. The most recent defeat for the squad came last Saturday in a 73-71 overtime decision against Idaho State. It was the second overtime loss in the last three games for NAU.
Portland State leads the all-time series with Northern Arizona, 19-14.
Dominic Waters scored a team-best 21 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line, but he and the Vikings still lost the fight against Montana State last weekend. Julius Thomas accounted for 14 points, hitting 7-of-8 from the floor, as the squad shot just 9-of-30 beyond the arc and was outscored at the free-throw line, 22-8. Waters leads a collection of double-digit scorers for the Vikings with his 18.0 ppg, hitting 43.1 percent behind the three-point line while also handing out a team-best 120 assists. Jamie Jones tacks on 14.0 ppg.
Cameron Jones scored 22 points, converting just 6-of-19 shots from the floor, including 2-of-7 behind the three-point line, as Northern Arizona came up short in overtime against Idaho State on the road. Shane Johannsen added 18 points, Gabe Rogers 10 points off the bench and Nick Larson eight points, 12 rebounds and four assists before fouling out. Cameron Jones, the only player to have started all 24 games for the team this season, is putting up 18.9 ppg by shooting close to 50 percent from the floor. Johannsen accounts for 11.0 ppg as the only other active double-digit scorer for the squad, his 62.4 percent shooting from the field better than his mere 54.5 percent accuracy at the charity stripe.
Portland State has been roughed up on the road this season and there doesn't seem to be any reason to think that will change tonight.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
