Old Dominion (21-7) at Northern Iowa (23-3)

GAME NOTES: Two teams sitting atop their respective conferences meet in a BracketBuster event tonight, as the Old Dominion Monarchs tangle with the Northern Iowa Panthers at the McLeod Center.

The Monarchs are currently tied for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 13-3 league mark and they own the conference's most overall wins at 21. ODU, which has a signature victory at nationally- ranked Georgetown, has won each of its past three outings, including a 78-67 besting of Towson on Tuesday. The Monarchs can also get the job done on the road, posting a 7-5 mark as the visitor.

UNI meanwhile, clinched its first outright Missouri Valley Conference regular- season title with a 70-52 triumph of Creighton on Tuesday. It marked the seventh win in eight games for the Panthers, who improved to 14-2 in conference play. UNI, which spent time in the Top 25 this season, is now a healthy 23-3 overall, including 12-0 at home.

The Panthers and Monarchs have met just one time previously, with ODU capturing a 63-61 victory in the Puerto Rico Shootout during the 1990-91 season.

The Monarchs are one of the stingiest teams in the nation, holding opponents to just 55.8 ppg and only 39.5 percent shooting from the floor. Offensively, the squad is balanced, as only Gerald Lee is averaging in double figures with 14.0 ppg. On Tuesday, Lee tallied 14 points to help ODU to a 78-67 victory over Towson. The Monarchs shot an efficient 51.6 percent from the floor on the night and turned 14 Towson turnovers in 25 points. ODU also dominated the boards, 39-28, and that wasn't surprising considering the Monarchs are outrebounding foes by 8.6 rpg on the season.

The Panthers have been just as successful as ODU at the defensive end, as they are limiting opponents to 55.1 ppg on the campaign. At the other end, Adam Koch paces the team with 12.5 ppg and he also pulls in 4.7 rpg. Jordan Eglseder adds 12.2 ppg and a team-best 7.6 rpg to the mix, but the seven-foot center won't be available tonight due to a suspension. Rounding out the double-digit scorers for UNI is Kwadzo Ahelegbe, who chips in with 10.9 ppg. On Tuesday, the Panthers continued their tough defense, forcing 14 turnovers and holding Creighton to just a 37.5 percent shooting effort from the floor in a 70-52 result. UNI did its damage from beyond the arc, connecting on 13-of-27 attempts. Ali Farokhmanesh and Johnny Moran both tallied 17 points and the duo went a combined 8-of-17 from three-point distance.

This is a big game for both teams, as the Panthers and Monarchs could use another quality win in case either of them fail to win their league tournament. Go with UNI, which has the luxury of playing at home, where it has gone undefeated thus far.
