William & Mary (19-7) at Iona (19-8)

GAME NOTES: The Iona Gaels wrap up their home schedule tonight, as they entertain the William & Mary Tribe as part of a BacketBuster event at the Hynes Center.

The Gaels have gone a successful 10-3 at home this season and that includes a 70-62 victory over Loyola-Maryland on Sunday. Iona, which plays out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, has won two of its last three games to improve to 19-8 overall.

As for the Tribe, they were last in action on Tuesday, when they nipped George Mason, 63-60, in a Colonial Athletic Association bout. It marked the fourth triumph in a row for W&M, which won its ninth road game to match the school record. The Tribe are now a hardy 19-7 overall and like Iona, gunning for a 20-win campaign tonight.

In regard to the all-time series, Iona holds a 2-1 edge over W&M, but this is the first meeting between the teams since 1984.

W&M shot 50.0 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes, as it rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit for a 63-60 win over George Mason on Tuesday. The Tribe also dominated the boards, 38-27, including a 15-7 advantage on the offensive glass. Quinn McDowell headed the charge with 19 points and eight rebounds, while David Schneider and Danny Sumner checked in with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Schneider currently tops the roster in scoring at 15.6 ppg and he is also pulling down 5.9 rpg. McDowell, a 43.9 percent three-point shooter, follows with 14.5 ppg and Sumner tacks on 10.0 ppg for the Tribe.

The Gaels dropped in 48.8 percent of their attempts from the floor and 23- of-31 at the foul line, as they downed Loyola over the weekend. Iona also forced 17 turnovers, generating 23 points off those mishaps. Scott Machado led the way with 12 points, while Jonathan Huffman had 11 off the bench. On the season, Machado is the lone player on the roster scoring in double figures at 12.4 ppg and he is also dishing out a team-high 3.9 apg. As a whole, Iona has been most effective on defense, forcing 16.7 turnovers per game and holding foes to 62.3 ppg.

The Tribe have fared well on the road this season and they should be able to continue that trend tonight, as they have a few more weapons to work with than Iona.
