Arkansas (14-12) at Auburn (12-14)

GAME NOTES: SEC foes will collide in Auburn this evening, as the hometown Tigers welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to town.

Arkansas has quietly found a great deal of success in recent weeks, as the team has won six of its last seven games to move to 14-12 overall and 7-4 in conference. The Razorbacks are fresh off a 92-79 decision over South Carolina on Wednesday, and they hope to improve a 2-4 record in true road games tonight.

As for Auburn, it enters this contest with a rather disappointing 12-14 overall record, but nine of the wins have come at home. The Tigers fell to 3-8 in SEC play on Thursday with a 78-70 setback against Florida, marking the second consecutive loss for the squad.

Two weeks ago, Arkansas beat Auburn by an 82-79 final in overtime. As a result, the Hogs' advantage in the all-time series was stretched to 24-15.

Since rejoining the team halfway through the season, Arkansas guard Courtney Fortson has been a force. Sure, his 37.9 percent shooting needs to be improved, but Fortson has dished out 74 assists and scored 19.7 ppg in 12 outings. Rotnei Clarke provides 16.0 ppg for the Razorbacks, and Marshawn Powell adds 15.2 ppg and 6.7 rpg. Mike Washington rounds out a foursome of double-digit scorers with 12.5 ppg. Arkansas is generating 76.1 ppg while allowing 72.9 ppg to opponents on 41.9 percent shooting from the field. Against South Carolina on Wednesday, Powell exploded for 26 points, and Fortson checked in with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Clarke scored 13 points for the winners, and Marcus Britt tallied 12 points. Arkansas shot 54.5 percent from the field and earned a 27-6 advantage in points from the foul line. A 40-30 rebounding edge also helped the cause.

DeWayne Reed continues to pace Auburn in scoring this season with 15.9 ppg, and he is also tops with 114 assists. Still, there is room for improvement, as Reed is shooting 38.8 percent from the floor. Lucas Hargrove and Tay Waller both provide 13.5 ppg, and Frankie Sullivan is netting 13.0 ppg. The Tigers are generating 75.5 ppg while permitting 73.7 ppg to foes, but they are being outscored by 5.0 ppg in league action. Against Florida two days ago, Reed scored 22 points and handed out six assists in 36 minutes of action. Waller added 13 points for the Tigers, who committed twice as many turnovers as the Gators and were outscored 32-17 from the foul line.

This game will be close, but the edge goes to the Razorbacks. Put simply, Arkansas is a more talented team than Auburn.
