Fordham (2-22) at Rhode Island (19-6)

GAME NOTES: The Fordham Rams carry a staggering 17-game losing streak into today's Atlantic 10 Conference matchup with the Rhode Island Rams in Kingston.

Fordham last tasted victory back on December 8th, and the team is a horrendous 2-22 overall, including 0-12 against league opponents. Of the 17 losses during the current slide, 14 have come by double figures, as the Rams have failed to remain competitive in most affairs. That was certainly the case on Wednesday, as Fordham was crushed by league-leading Richmond on the road, 84-56.

As for Rhode Island, it only lost three games through the first 22 outings this season. With that in mind, it is certainly surprising that the last three contests for the Rams have resulted in defeat. On Wednesday, they fell to 19-6 overall and 7-5 in A-10 action with a 62-57 road loss to Saint Louis.

Rhode Island crushed Fordham by an 85-67 final in the first meeting this season to extend its lead in the all-time series to 32-20.

There are a couple of talented players on the Fordham roster, as Chris Gaston and Brenton Butler both boast solid averages. Gaston is scoring 17.4 ppg and 11.0 rpg to go along with 43 blocks, numbers that would place him in contention for A-10 Player of the Year honors if the team wasn't so bad. As for Butler, he brings 15.9 ppg to the floor, but his 33.3 percent shooting from the field leaves much to be desired. Fordham is only generating 62.2 ppg while allowing 77.2 ppg to opponents. In the 28-point loss to Richmond last time out, Butler scored 17 points, while Gaston added 14 points and 14 rebounds. The Rams shot just 37.9 percent from the floor while allowing the Spiders to connect on 52.6 percent of their field goal attempts.

Three double-digit scorers are in the fold for Rhode Island this season, and the team is generating 76.6 ppg while allowing 71.1 ppg to opponents. Keith Cothran paces the Rams with 15.0 ppg, and Delroy James adds 13.2 ppg. As for Lamonte Ulmer, who is ripping down 7.3 rpg, he is scoring 11.5 ppg. Against Saint Louis earlier this week, Akeem Richmond scored 18 points for Rhode Island on 6-of-11 accuracy from three-point range. Unfortunately, none of his teammates managed more than seven points in that affair. The Rams connected on a mere 35.5 percent of their field goal attempts and allowed Saint Louis to shoot 52.4 percent. A 16-5 disadvantage in points from the foul line clearly hurt the cause.

There is no doubt the Rhode Island will win today's game, as it is far superior to Fordham. Expect a score similar to the first meeting.
