Furman (12-14) at Davidson (13-13)

GAME NOTES: Two slumping basketball teams will meet. when the Davidson Wildcats host the Furman Paladins at Belk Arena in Southern Conference action.

Furman came up short 79-77 at Georgia Southern on Thursday. The loss was the Paladins' third in their last four starts, and dropped them to 12-14 overall and 6-9 in the So Con's South Division. Furman is 4-8 on the road this season.

Davidson fell at home to Wofford 73-51 on Saturday. It was the second loss for the Wildcats in their last three starts, although they've won five of their last seven. Overall, Davidson stands at 13-13. At 8-6, the Wildcats hold down fourth place in the South Division. They're 8-4 in the confines of Belk Arena.

Davidson was an 86-81 winner at Furman on January 13th in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Wildcats have a 92-61 lead in a series that dates back to the 1909-1910 season. Davidson has won 25 of the last 26 games in the series, including the last nine.

Jake Cohen scored 17 points to lead the way for Davidson Wednesday night. J.P. Kuhlman finished with 13 points to go with six boards. The Wildcats were limited to a miserable 20.8 percent from the field during the opening half, enabling Wofford to take a 38-22 halftime lead. Davidson shot just 29.5 percent from the floor for the game. Cohen tops the Wildcats in scoring at 12.9 ppg. He's shooting 47.1 percent the floor, but just 30.6 percent from long range. Kuhlman is next on the scoring list at 12.6 ppg while Will Archambault is also in double figures at 11.1 points per contest. Steve Rossiter leads the team in rebounding at 6.1 rpg, while Brendon McKillop is fifth in the conference in assists at 4.1 apg to go with 9.6 points. McKillop has an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.7-to-1. Davidson is shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, while averaging 71.2 ppg. The Wildcats are surrendering 69.0 ppg defensively.

Amu Saaka scored 27 points but it wasn't enough for the Paladins to stave off defeat on Wednesday. Brandon Sebirumbi netted 15 points for the Paladins, who got 13 points from Justin Dehm and 10 from Jordan Miller. Furman led 34-32 at halftime but couldn't come away with the win, in part due to 20 turnovers. Saaka leads the Paladins in scoring at 16.4 ppg (fifth in the conference) and 7.2 rpg (sixth in the SoCon). He's hitting 46.5 percent from the floor and a solid 38.1 percent from long range. Miller is also in double figures at 14.4 ppg (eighth in the conference), although he's hitting just 38.4 percent from the floor. He is however hitting 81.0 percent from the foul line. Darryl Evans leads the team with 3.2 apg. The Paladins are shooting 41.8 percent from the floor and scoring 69.4 ppg, but allowing 70.0 ppg at the other end.

With the end of the regular season in sight, both teams are looking for momentum as the conference tournament approaches. Davidson will get a lift from being at home.
