GAME NOTES: The UAB Blazers welcome the Houston Cougars to Bartow Arena for tonight's Conference USA matchup.
The Blazers enter the tilt on high note, as they scored a 59-54 victory over Southern Miss on Wednesday. It was the second victory in three games for UAB, which reached the 20-win plateau for the 19th time in the program's 32 years. Now at 8-3 within the conference, the Blazers return back home, where they are hoping to end a two-game slide.
As for the Cougars, they were in action on Tuesday, when they suffered a 68-65 setback at UCF. The defeat ended a short two-game win streak and dropped Houston to 13-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
In regard to the all-time series, UAB holds a 14-6 advantage over Houston, although the Cougars took last season's meeting by a 75-56 score.
Houston shot a lackluster 36.5 percent from the floor, including just a 6- of-22 showing from behind the arc, as it was clipped by UCF on Tuesday. The Cougars also left seven points at the foul line, so that certainly didn't help in a three-point decision. Aubrey Coleman led the way with 26 points and eight boards in the loss. It was a typical effort from the nation's leading scorer, as Coleman averages a healthy 25.6 ppg for the season. He also leads the team in rebounding (7.6 rpg) as well as steals (74). Kelvin Lewis provides a nice complement to Coleman, as he puts forth 15.6 ppg and 50 steals.
An 8-3 spurt over the final two minutes helped UAB emerge with a 59-54 victory over Southern MIss on Wednesday. UAB shot 44.2 percent from the floor for the game and went 15-of-22 at the foul line in the second half to secure the victory. Howard Crawford led the charge with 17 points, while Elijah Millsap had 13 and five boards. Millsap is the team's most important player considering he leads UAB with 15.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg and 45 steals. Crawford follows with 12.4 ppg, and Jamarr Sanders adds 11.2 ppg and 4.8 rpg. Aaron Johnson chips in with 10.2 ppg and he dishes out a team-high 4.6 apg to run the offense.
The Blazers are due for a home win and they should be able to get that tonight behind Millsap and company.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
