Indiana (9-16) at Minnesota (15-10)

GAME NOTES: The Indiana Hoosiers bring a seven-game losing streak into tonight's Big Ten Conference matchup with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Indiana has suffered four consecutive double-digit defeats, including a 72-58 setback against Michigan State on Tuesday. The Hoosiers are now 9-16 overall, including 3-10 in league play, and they carry a 1-5 mark in true road games into this affair.

As for Minnesota, it snapped a two-game slide with a 68-52 romp over Wisconsin on Thursday to the delight of the home crowd. The Golden Gophers are now 12-2 at home, and they are 15-10 overall, including 6-7 in league play.

Indiana defeated Minnesota in an 81-78 final in overtime on January 17th, and the Hoosiers own an 87-60 advantage in the all-time series.

Overall this season, Indiana is scoring 67.6 ppg while allowing 70.2 ppg to opponents, but the differential is far more lopsided in Big Ten games alone. Verdell Jones III is the leading active scorer for the Hoosiers with 14.8 ppg, and Christian Watford checks in with 12.7 ppg. Jones scored 20 points on Tuesday against Michigan State, and Watford added 14 points. Unfortunately, those two players got little help from an unimpressive supporting cast. The Hoosiers connected on only 34.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the clash, including a 23.1 percent effort from three-point range. They finished with a mere five assists against 16 turnovers and allowed Michigan State to shoot 59.3 percent from the floor. If not for a 25-5 advantage in points from the foul line, the outcome would have been more lopsided.

Through 25 games, Minnesota is scoring 74.3 ppg while allowing 64.4 ppg to opponents on 39.7 percent shooting from the floor. The Golden Gophers are led by Lawrence Westbrook, who is scoring 13.2 ppg on 41.1 percent shooting from three-point range. Blake Hoffarber checks in with 11.8 ppg, and Damian Johnson provides 10.0 ppg. Hoffarber scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds on Thursday in the thrilling win over Wisconsin. Johnson finished with 11 points, while Devoe Joseph and Ralph Sampson III added 10 points apiece. The fact that Minnesota was able to beat such a strong opponent despite the fact that Westbrook didn't hit a single shot from the floor was surprising. The Gophers played tremendous defense, limiting the Badgers to 30.5 percent overall shooting.

Minnesota will avenge the overtime loss to Indiana in the first meeting this season. Expect another balanced offensive effort and strong defensive showing from the Gophers.
