Indiana State (16-11) at Green Bay (18-10)

GAME NOTES: With the regular season ready to draw to a close, the Indiana State Sycamores take a break from their Missouri Valley Conference schedule tonight to take part in the annual BracketBusters event against the Green Bay Phoenix at the Resch Center.

An even 8-8 in MVC play this season, the Sycamores have actually won two straight versus league members, the most recent of those coming on Tuesday night in a 75-69 overtime affair against Bradley.

As for the Phoenix, representing the Horizon League, they've won three of their last four outings and are now 10-6 in conference and close to the top of the standings, even though nationally-ranked Butler has already claimed the regular-season title. Tuesday night saw Green Bay pummel Cleveland State in a 74-57 final.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, Green Bay won the only previous meeting with a 74-53 rout back in 1994 as part of the Oneida Classic in Wisconsin.

Operating with a thin roster to begin with, the Sycamores surprised Bradley by sticking around and capturing the six-point overtime win at home earlier this week. Aaron Carter logged a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow starters Carl Richard (13 points, Rashad Reed (12 points, five rebounds, five assists) and Josh Crawford (11 points) all had a hand in keeping Indiana State competitive. Unfortunately for the Sycamores, they enter this game just as they did the last, without top scorers Harry Marshall and Dwayne Lathan, a duo that was combining for almost 26 ppg, due to injury. Without them, Reed is the closest thing the Sycamores have to a double-digit scorer with his 9.9 ppg, but in his case he is shooting a feeble 34.2 percent from the floor. The team is showing a scoring average of 66.7 ppg thus far, but having three of the top four scorers on that list also on the injured list right now means that not all is what it appears to be for ISU.

Randy Berry put together a solid effort against Cleveland State at home on Tuesday night, registering a double-double that consisted of 19 points and 11 rebounds to provide the hosts with the lopsided 17-point win. Also having a strong game was Bryquis Perine who shook off 4-of-11 shooting from the floor to come up with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Rahmon Fletcher accounted for 17 points as well. A starter in all 26 games in which he has appeared, Fletcher leads the program in scoring with his 16.1 ppg, followed by Perine (13.1 ppg) who is getting by with his 40.4 percent shooting from the floor. Troy Cotton (11.8 ppg) gives the Phoenix a viable three-point threat these days with him having converted 79-of-187 (.422), which means he is actually shooting better from beyond the arc than he is the field overall thus far.

With so many crucial players unavailable for the Sycamores, no one can blame them if they come up short on the road in this clash.
