(7) Kansas State (21-4) at Oklahoma (13-12)

GAME NOTES: The seventh-ranked Kansas State Wildcats continue their strong push toward the postseason, as they invade Norman this evening, for a Big 12 clash with the Oklahoma Sooners at the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Wildcats have won four straight games since losing a heartbreaking overtime affair to top-ranked Kansas on January 30th. Since then, the team has knocked off Nebraska twice, as well as Iowa State and Colorado. Most recently, the team edged out the Cornhuskers at home by a score of 91-87. With the win, KSU moved to 8-3 in league play.

The Sooners have really struggled at times this season and the result is a less than savory 13-12 overall mark. Conference play has been a real problem, including the team's current three-game slide, with losses to Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Colorado. The recent 77-67 loss to the Buffaloes has dropped OU to a mere 4-7 in conference action.

OU holds a 102-89 advantage in the all-time series with KSU thanks to wins in nine of the last 11 meetings.

Frank Martin's Wildcats have earned their top-10 ranking with stellar play at both ends of the floor. The team is one of the top offensive squads in the Big 12, averaging 80.8 ppg, while limiting foes to just 69.1 ppg and outrebounding them by 5.7 rebounds per game. The strength of this team is in the backcourt, where snipers Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemete reside. Pullen currently leads the team in scoring at 18.6 ppg, followed closely by Clemente's 15.6 ppg. The pair have combined for 128 of the team's 168 three-pointers to date and are responsible for 195 of the 381 assists. Scoring depth continues with Jamar Samuels (11.7 ppg) and Curtis Kelly (11.4 ppg). It was a barnburner this week against Nebraska, as KSU hung on in a shootout to earn the win. Dominique Sutton came up huge for the Wildcats, tying a career-high with 21 points. He just missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. Clemente matched the scoring output with 21 points of his own, while Pullen finished with 18 points and six assists. Kelly rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points, as KSU shot .463 from the floor and outscored the Cornhuskers 32-17 at the free-throw line.

The Sooners lack the offensive firepower to hang with the Wildcats, despite what seems to be solid scoring depth. The team boasts of five players averaging double figures, but the result is a rather modest 73.6 ppg. The team is guard-heavy, with Willie Warren and Tommy Mason-Griffin leading the way. Warren is a solid all-around player, pacing the team in scoring (16.3 ppg), while also showing the ability to rebound (3.3 rpg) and distribute the ball (86 assists). Mason-Griffin is the team's resident sniper, hitting 45 percent from behind the arc (60-of-133) and netting 14.0 ppg. Fellow guards Tony Crocker (11.7 ppg) and Cade Davis (10.0 ppg) get into the act as well, while Tiny Gallon (10.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg) is the top presence in the paint. The Sooners fought back to make a game of it in the second half, but Colorado's strong shooting (.519) after the break held off Oklahoma, handing the team a third straight loss. Mason-Griffin and Warren led the way offensively with 19 points apiece. Gallon came off the bench to tally just four points, but he did grab 10 rebounds.

Despite this game taking place in Norman, it is the Wildcats that have the advantage. Kansas State is certainly worthy of its lofty ranking and behind the play of Pullen and company, it should continue to build momentum down the stretch.
