Idaho defeated Seattle 82-72 on Thursday night, pushing the team's record over .500 to 13-12 on the season. The Vandals were led by Kashif Watson's game-high 20 points, while Marvin Jefferson netted 16. The team's leading scorer on the season, Mac Hopson (14.9 ppg) scored 15 points in the victory, while dishing out nine assists. Watson is second on the team in point production, netting 11.1 points a contest, while Steffan Johnson adds 10.1 ppg. Idaho held a comfortable 38-28 lead against Seattle at the end of the opening half behind 60.0 percent shooting from the floor (15-of-25). The second half proved to be a bit more of an open court as both squads sunk 44 points, allowing Idaho to up its home record to 6-5.
Long Beach State was led by Eugene Phelps and T.J. Robinson in a 74-52 home defeat to Pacific on Thursday night. Phelps sunk 13 points, while Robinson added 11. The 49ers trailed 33-26 at the intermission after connecting on just 37.0 percent (10-of-27) of their field-goal attempts, compared to 54.2 percent (13-of-24) for Pacific. Things didn't change much in the second stanza, as the 49ers' defense shut down, letting Pacific go on a 32-12 run in the final 13 minutes of the game en route to the 22-point victory. Robinson leads Long Beach State in scoring on the season, netting 13.8 ppg. Larry Anderson contributes 11.1 ppg, while Casper Ware rounds out the double-digit performers with 10.9.
Idaho's Mac Hopson has the ability to take over a game, scoring 20+ points four times this season. Look for Hopson and Watson to take advantage of a vulnerable Long Beach State team that has just come off of a 22-point loss at home.
