GAME NOTES: A battle of Louisiana will take place this evening when the UL- Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns host the UL-Monroe Warhawks in a Sun Belt Conference battle at the Cajundome.
The Warhawks fell to 6-10 in conference play with their recent, 82-73 setback to New Orleans. It was the fourth loss in the last six games for UL-Monroe, which is a meager 3-11 on the road.
As for the Cajuns, they pushed their league ledger to 9-6 on the season with a thrilling, 56-54 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday. The win snapped a two-game slide for ULL, which has captured nine of its 12 victories at home this season.
The Cajuns have dominated ULM in the all-time series, winning 42 of the 59 meetings, including a 72-67 victory earlier this season.
The Warhawks have been inconsistent at the offensive end of the floor this season, and head into this matchup netting just 67.6 ppg, behind a 41.9 percent shooting effort. Dynile Forbes is currently pacing the team with 12.2 ppg, while Tony Hooper is helping the team with 11.0 ppg and a team-best 59 assists. The last time the Warhawks were on the floor the team scored 73 points, but still lost to New Orleans by a nine-point margin. ULM shot a respectable 45.8 percent from the floor and also finished a strong 13-of-26 from behind the arc. Lawrence Gilbert led the way with 18 points, while Kenneth Averette tallied 16 points. Forbes added 13 points in the loss, while Hooper contributed 12 points.
The Cajuns were not overwhelming the last time they were on the floor, but the team still did enough to slip past Arkansas State. ULL shot just 37.0 percent from the floor in the matchup and finished just 13-of-22 from the charity stripe. Tyren Johnson led the way in the win with 15 points, while Randell Daigle posted 10 points. Johnson has been the best player on the floor for the Cajuns, as the forward is netting 17.7 ppg, to go along with a team-best 8.2 rpg. Chris Gradnigo is contributing 14.4 ppg, while Daigle is posting 11.4 ppg for ULL, which is producing a lackluster 68.9 ppg.
Earlier this season the Cajuns defeated the Warhawks on their home floor, so with a home crowd behind ULL this evening, look for the Cajuns to grab a victory and keep pace in the West Division of the Sun Belt.
