Marist (1-25) at UC Irvine (11-16)

GAME NOTES: The Marist Red Foxes have traveled across the country for a BracketBusters matchup with the UC Irvine Anteaters.

The Red Foxes have done little to impress during this 2009-10 campaign, posting their only victory back on January 2nd in a 72-66 final over Manhattan. As a result, Marist currently stands at 1-25 overall this year with a 1-15 tally in Metro AtlantiC Athletic Conference action. The squad most recently suffered a 70-51 setback at Niagara last Sunday to mark its 14th consecutive defeat.

As for UC Irvine, it comes into this contest with an 11-16 overall record, which includes a 4-9 ledger in Big West Conference play. The club has lost two of its last three games, with the most recent coming in the form of a 74-57 decision against rival UC Riverside on Wednesday night.

This clash marks the first-ever between these two schools in men's basketball.

Devin Price scored 15 points to lead the way for Marist in last Sunday's loss to Niagara, while Candon Rusin added 11 points to go with five rebounds. The Red Foxes outrebounded the Purple Eagles by a 41-37 margin, but were guilty of 17 turnovers and shot just 31.5 percent from the field. The Red Foxes have had very little to brag about this season, allowing 70.7 ppg while putting up a meager 56.7 ppg. The squad doesn't have a single double-digit scorer, although Rusin comes close with his 9.8 ppg. Marist has allowed the opposition to shoot a solid 46.8 percent from the floor while hitting just 39.1 percent of its own attempts, and the Red Foxes also own a lowly 64.1 percent conversion rate at the charity stripe.

The Anteaters shot just 37.7 percent from the floor in Wednesday's 17-point loss to UC Riverside, which included a 5-of-20 performance from beyond the arc. UCI also lost the battle on the boards by a 47-31 margin, and was bested in the paint to the tune of a 24-18 deficit. Eric Wise posted a game-high 22 points in the losing effort, and Darren Moore chipped in 10 points while collecting nine rebounds for the Anteaters. On the season, UCI has managed 66.0 ppg while allowing the opposition to register 68.7 ppg. Wise paces the club with a 15.8 ppg scoring average, and also owns a team-best 6.0 rpg tally as well. Michael Hunter has been responsible for 13.6 ppg, while Moore rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with his 10.2 ppg.

Simply put, the Anteaters should have very little trouble knocking off the lowly Red Foxes in this one.
