Penn State (9-16) at Michigan (13-12)

GAME NOTES: Big Ten Conference foes will collide at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor this evening, as the Michigan Wolverines play host to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Penn State finally earned its first Big Ten victory of the season by beating Northwestern on Wednesday in an 81-70 final. The Nittany Lions had not won a game since December 21st before that triumph, and they are now 9-16 overall, 1-12 in Big Ten action and 2-7 in true road games.

Michigan trailed by five points with 15 seconds remaining against Iowa on Wednesday, but the Wolverines forced overtime and prevailed in an 80-78 final. That victory was the second in a row for the Maize and Blue, which is now 13-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play. Of the team's 13 wins this season, nine have come at home.

Back on January 7th, Michigan beat Penn State by a 64-55 final, and the Wolverines own a 23-10 advantage in the all-time series between the teams.

On Wednesday, Penn State connected on 56.3 percent of its field goal attempts against Northwestern, and a 20-of-23 effort from the foul line also helped the cause for the Nittany Lions. The club earned a 36-21 rebounding advantage as well, and all five starters reached double figures in scoring. David Jackson and Chris Babb both scored 20 points to lead the charge, and Babb dished out six assists. Jeff Brooks scored 12 points, while both Andrew Jones and Taylor Battle had 10 points. Heading into the game against Northwestern, Battle was the only Penn State player averaging double figures in scoring with his 19.5 ppg. Clearly, it was great for fans of the Nittany Lions to see the standout guard get some help for a change.

Manny Harris is the leading scorer for Michigan this season with 18.5 ppg, and he also brings 6.4 rpg, 4.3 apg and nearly two steals per game to the floor, proof of his tremendous versatility. DeShawn Sims is the only other double- digit scorer in the fold, as he provides 17.8 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Michigan is generating 66.0 ppg while allowing 62.3 ppg to opponents. Against Iowa earlier this week, Sims posted 27 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Harris racked up 20 points, 10 boards and seven assists, while Laval Lucas- Perry tallied 12 points. Michigan finished the game with 17 assists against only nine turnovers and shot 14-of-27 from three-point range.

Expect Michigan to get the job done at home today, as the combination of Harris and Sims will be too much for Penn State to overcome.
