Rider (15-13) at Hofstra (15-13)

GAME NOTES: Two teams with identical overall and conference records clash this afternoon as part of the BracketBusters weekend, as the Hofstra Pride entertain the Rider Broncs at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, New York.

Even though both squads are showing a 15-13 record at the moment, Hofstra is the hot team with three straight wins and six in the last seven outings to finally draw even at 8-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association. On Tuesday night, the Pride rattled the Delaware Blue Hens for an 82-69 win on the road.

As for the Broncs, also playing at .500 against their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes, they have won two of their last three outings, including a 72-66 decision against Saint Peter's on Monday night.

The series between these two teams is tied at 17-17, with Hofstra surviving an overtime meeting with a 68-65 win in the most recent encounter back during the 1991-92 campaign.

The Broncs went from shooting a modest 46.2 percent from the field in the first half of their meeting with the Peacocks early in the week to an incredible 70.8 percent after the break, making it easier to come away with the road win. Ryan Thompson posted a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, while Mike Ringgold and Justin Robinson chipped in 17 and 11 points, respectively, the latter handing out eight assists as well. Thompson, who was chosen as the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, has been showing some signs of life in recent weeks, leading his team in scoring in three straight and five of the last six games. Shooting better than 80 percent at the free- throw line, Thompson is accounting for 16.4 ppg, followed by Robinson (13.3 ppg), Ringgold (11.0 ppg) and Novar Gadson (10.8 ppg), yet this team is still being outscored on the average by two points per contest.

Hofstra defeated the Delaware Blue Hens for the fourth straight time on Tuesday night as Charles Jenkins put together an impressive effort with 30 points, seven rebounds and four assists as he shot 10-of-19 from the floor and 5-of-10 behind the three-point line. Not to be overlooked was Cornelius Vines who dropped in 18 points as he too converted 5-of-10 shots beyond the arc on the night as the team made good on 45.8 percent from three-point range overall. Jenkins is clearly the one reliable scoring threat for Hofstra, averaging 19.8 ppg as he shoots an even 40 percent behind the three-point line while making 131-of-160 chances at the charity stripe. With 105 assists, Jenkins is second in that category behind only Chaz Williams who has played one less game and has three more dishes to his credit. Defensively, this squad is holding foes to just 39.1 percent shooting from the floor and a mere 28.4 percent out on the perimeter.

Rider has been average on the road this season, but as long as Thompson can keep up his strong play and get ample support from Robinson, the Broncs could be in line for the victory.
