South Alabama (15-13) at Middle Tennessee (16-12)

GAME NOTES: Middle Tennessee is one of three teams on top of the East Division in the Sun Belt Conference and the Blue Raiders will try to stay there when they host the South Alabama Jaguars this evening at the Murphy Center.

The last time the Jags were on the floor the team suffered an embarrassing, 99-69 setback to Western Kentucky. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for South Alabama, and left the team with a mere 7-9 mark in conference action.

As for the Blue Raiders, their three-game winning streak was snapped with a 66-62 setback to Troy on Thursday. Despite the loss, Middle Tennessee is still tied for the top spot in the East at 10-5 with the Trojans and Florida Atlantic.

Earlier this season the Blue Raiders tied the all-time series against South Alabama at 11 games apiece with an 80-68 victory over the Jaguars.

The Jaguars have a trio of players that have led the way this season, but the top option on the floor has been Tim Williams, who is leading the team with 15.9 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Martino Brock is contributing 12.2 ppg and 6.7 rpg, while Bryan Sherrer is posting 10.2 ppg. Despite the success of those three players, the Jaguars come into this game netting just 68.2 ppg. On Thursday the Jaguars were pounded by Western Kentucky by a 30-point margin. South Alabama shot 45.2 percent from the floor and was led by Williams, who scored 23 points. Brock, Gary Redus and Javier Carter tallied 11 points apiece in the loss.

The Blue Raiders struggled on Thursday against Troy, as the team scored just 62 points en route to a four-point loss. Middle Tennessee shot just 40.4 percent from the floor and finished 5-of-17 from behind the arc. Calvin o'Neil led the way with 18 points and also grabbed seven rebounds, while James Washington tallied 15 points. Desmond Yates and Montarrio Haddock added 10 points apiece in the loss. On the season the team has been paced by Yates, who comes into this matchup with 14.1 ppg. Haddock, who is leading the team with 5.9 rpg, is also contributing 13.4 ppg, while Washington is netting 12.3 ppg, to go along with 103 assists.

The Blue Raiders are coming off a tough loss, but look for them to bounce back this evening at home against a struggling South Alabama squad.
