Southeast Missouri State (7-20) at Miami-Ohio (11-15)

GAME NOTES: In a game that is bound to cause problems for the casual fan, BracketBusters Saturday is proud to present the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks against the RedHawks of Miami-Ohio.

This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood.

SEMO, which operates as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, enters the weekend with just seven total wins on the season and only two true road victories. The squad was handed an 80-68 defeat by league-leading Murray State on Tuesday, the team's fifth loss in a row and the eighth in the last nine contests.

As for the hometown RedHawks, they appeared to have found their rhythm about a month ago as they rattled off eight wins in 10 appearances, but the last week has provided the team with back-to-back losses. First, it was a 67-64 close call at Bowling Green on Valentine's Day, and then Wednesday night the RedHawks were downed by Akron at home, 61-56.

SEMO's Marland Smith came off the bench to tally a team-best 19 points, shooting 4-of-8 behind the three-point line, but with four of the five starters combining for just seven points, it made little difference against league-leading Murray State on the road. Derek Thompson tallied 17 points, shooting 5-of-7 on the perimeter, and Jajuan Maxwell 15 points in a reserve role as well. Anthony Allison stands as the lone double-digit scorer for this group, with his 10.5 ppg, but he was one of those starters that barely made a sound against the Racers. Through 27 games this program is shooting a mere 64.3 percent at the free-throw line and has 125 more turnovers than assists, so it is easy to see why they are being outscored by more than eight points per game.

The RedHawks put up a valiant fight on the road at Bowling Green last weekend, but the squad simply could not get the job done as it bowed by three points. Nick Winbush registered a double-double with 14 points and a team-best 10 rebounds, while Kenny Hayes accounted for a team-best 17 points and four assists as he shot 4-of-7 behind the three-point line. Antonio Ballard tacked on another 13 points, but getting just eight points off the bench proved to be one of the deciding factors in the event. Like SEMO, these RadHawks also have just a single double-digit scorer on the season in Hayes with his 14.5 ppg, but he is also the top passer for the group with his 82 assists over the course of 26 games. Winbush and Julian Mavunga are both putting up 9.6 ppg and have combined for almost 11 rebounds per contest to at least make Miami competitive in the last five weeks.

Seeing as how the Redhawks have won so few games on the road this season, it is a safe bet to expect the RedHawks to come away with the win this afternoon.
