GAME NOTES: The South Florida Bulls will try to add to their best run in the Big East, as they host the St. John's Red Storm today at the Sun Dome in Tampa.
The Bulls have been the doormat of the Big East since joining the conference, until this season. Following a 0-4 start to league play, USF has responded by winning six of nine outings to pull within one game of .500 at 6-7. On Tuesday, the team snapped a two-game slide with a 65-57 win over Cincinnati, improving the Bulls to 16-9 overall and 9-3 at home.
SJU meanwhile, had its run of two straight wins stopped on Wednesday with a 59-50 loss to Seton Hall. The Red Storm are now just 4-9 within the conference and that includes a 1-5 record on the road.
The Red Storm however, own a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series with USF and they have taken the last four meetings.
SJU simply couldn't find its stroke on Wednesday, hitting on just 32.8 percent from the floor in a 59-50 loss to Seton Hall. The Red Storm struggled from long range (3-of-15) as well in the defeat. Sean Evans scored 14 points to head SJU, while Paris Horne had 12 and seven boards. D.J. Kennedy though, had an off night, scoring only two points on 1-of-10 shooting from the floor. Despite that performance, he still remains the most important player for the Red Storm, leading the team with 14.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 3.1 apg for the season. Dwight Hardy gives the club an option off the bench, as he chips in with 10.8 ppg.
The Bulls shot a blistering 60.0 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes and added a 15-of-20 effort at the foul line for a 65-57 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday. Dominique Jones continued his terrific run in Big East play, as he poured in 26 points and snared five caroms in the win. One of the top players in the conference, Jones has played a huge part in the team's recent run and he turns in 21.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 4.1 apg on the season. Augustus Gilchrist, who recently returned from a lengthy injury, has averaged 16.7 ppg and 6.9 rpg over 10 outings this season and should help out even more down the stretch once he is back in full form. Jarrid Famous adds 11.6 ppg and a team-high 7.8 rpg to the mix for USF, while Chris Howard contributes 10.1 ppg and 3.7 apg.
USF is on a roll right now and backed by another big game from Jones, the Bulls should come away with the victory.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
