Tennessee-Martin (4-22) at Ball State (14-11)

GAME NOTES: The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks will attempt to capture their first road win of the 2009-10 campaign this afternoon, as they pay a visit to the Ball State Cardinals as part of the annual BracketBusters event.

The Skyhawks have had a rough go of it this season, posting a dismal 4-22 overall ledger to go with a 1-15 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. The squad comes into this meeting with losses in three straight games, including an 83-68 setback against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday night.

As for Ball State, it earned sole possession of first place in the Mid- American Conference's West Division with a 69-63 home win over Central Michigan on Wednesday night. The Cardinals now own an 8-5 mark in league play, and a 14-11 overall record.

Back on December 6, 1991, Ball State posted an 88-41 dismantling of the Skyhawks in the only other meeting between the two schools.

The Skyhawks were guilty of 19 turnovers in Tuesday's meeting with Eastern Illinois, a stat that was made even worse by the fact that they shot a rather lackluster 44.0 percent from the floor. Marquis Weddle scored 18 points to pace UT-Martin in the losing effort, while Benzor Simmons notched 15 points off the bench. Andres Irarrazabal got into the mix as well, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds. On the season, UTM averages just 64.8 ppg, and has had somewhat of a revolving door in terms of the starting lineup from game to game. The Skyhawks have used 13 different starting combinations, and all 12 active players have started in at least three games. Weddle leads the club with a 16.3 ppg average, and he is joined in double figures by Simmons and Rueben Clayton, who tally 13.4 and 11.9 ppg, respectively.

Randy Davis poured in a career-high 24 points to lead the Cardinals in Wednesday's win over Central Michigan, a contest in which Ball State shot a solid 48.8 percent from the field. Jauwan Scaife added 18 points, while Jarrod Jones finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Ball State logged a 15-of-20 effort from the foul line in the victory, and limited the Chippewas to a meager 35.9 percent effort from the floor overall. The Cards have held opponents to 62.0 ppg so far this season, but they averages just 60.5 ppg themselves. As a result, the club boasts just two double-digit scorers, beginning with Jones and his 12.2 ppg. Jones also owns a team-best 7.5 rpg, while Scaife checks in at 10.1 ppg. Davis is right on the cusp of breaking through with a 9.0 ppg average, and he leads the Cardinals in assists with 84.

The Skyhawks may own a 3-1 record in this event, but don't expect too much from a team that has yet to win on the road in 2009-10.
