GAME NOTES: The Virginia Cavaliers are desperate for a victory today against the Clemson Tigers in ACC action.

Virginia has suffered four consecutive losses to fall to 14-10 overall and 5-6 in conference. The Cavaliers dropped a 69-50 decision to Florida State on Wednesday night, and they carry a 2-5 true road record into today's affair.

As for Clemson, it has won its last two games to improve to 18-7 overall and 6-5 in ACC play. The Tigers defeated Miami last Saturday by a 74-66 final and have been idle since. Of the 14 home games that Clemson has played this season, 12 have resulted in victories.

The Cavaliers own a 65-50 series advantage over the Tigers, and the teams split a pair of meetings last season.

Virginia connected on only 37.5 percent of its field goal attempts against Florida State on Wednesday, including a 5-of-18 effort from three-point range. The Cavaliers trailed by nine points at intermission and were unable to get back in the game. They were outscored 38-20 in the paint and 21-4 off turnovers. Jeff Jones scored 13 points in defeat, and Mike Scott added 10 points. It was certainly surprising to see Sylven Landesberg held to four points, especially considering that he is averaging 17.2 ppg. Scott checks in with 13.4 ppg for the Cavs, who are netting 68.0 ppg while limiting their opponents to 62.4 ppg. It should be pointed out, however, that Virginia owns a negative scoring differential in ACC games alone.

Trevor Booker has started all 25 games for Clemson this season, and he is scoring 15.4 ppg to go along with 8.2 rpg. Booker is shooting 51.7 percent from the floor and has both 37 blocks and 37 steals. Demontez Stitt is scoring 10.8 ppg for the Tigers as the only other double-digit scorer in the fold. Clemson is generating 74.2 ppg while holding opponents to 63.3 ppg, but the club is only outscoring ACC foes by 1.1 ppg. Against Miami in the most recent outing, Booker paced a balanced attack with 18 points. Stitt had 15 points and six assists, while Andre Young posted 14 points off the bench. The key to victory for the Tigers was a 25-7 advantage in points from the foul line. That tilt featured eight lead changes.

Expect the home team to get the job done today. Clemson will jump on top early and cruise to victory.
