Western Michigan (14-12) at Southern Illinois (14-12)

GAME NOTES: BrackBuster action will take place this afternoon at the SIU Arena, when the Southern Illinois Salukis host the Western Michigan Broncos in Carbondale.

The Broncos, who are 6-7 in Mid-American Conference action, come into this matchup fresh off a 90-81 victory over Northern Illinois. Western Michigan has struggled on the road this season, losing eight of its 10 games as the visitor.

The Salukis have struggled in their conference, posting a 6-10 ledger against Missouri Valley foes. The last time Southern Illinois was on the floor the team suffered a 79-72 setback to Drake. It was the fifth loss in the last seven matchups for SIU, which is 9-4 at home this year.

The Huskies have won three of the four matchups against Western Michigan on the hardwood.

The last time the Broncos were on the floor the team exploded for 90 points in a victory over Northern Illinois. Western Michigan shot 48.1 percent from the floor and also connected on 34-of-45 attempts from the foul line. David Kool erupted for 33 points in the win, while Flenard Whitfield tallied 16 points off the bench. Donald Lawson added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Martelle McLemore chipped in 12 points. It was a solid effort by WMU, which is netting just 69.7 ppg. Kool is currently pacing the team at the offensive end of the floor, and comes into this matchup with 21.5 ppg and 67 assists. The only other player netting double figures on the season is McLemore, who is posting 11.7 ppg.

The Salukis have been nothing more than mediocre at the offensive end of the floor and come into this contest netting 70.0 ppg. Kevin Dillard is pacing the squad with 12.8 ppg and 137 assists, while Tony Freeman is contributing 12.3 ppg. The last time SIU was on the floor the team scored 72 points, but still fell to Drake. Southern Illinois shot 47.1 percent from the floor, but finished just 16-of-27 from the foul line and also committed 16 turnovers. Gene Teague led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Freeman also posted 18 points. Justin Bocot added 10 points, while Dillard was held to just seven points and seven rebounds.

The Salukis have struggled at times this season, but look for them to grab a victory this evening in front of a home crowd.
