GAME NOTES: The Penn Quakers wrap up their five-game homestand tonight, as they host the Yale Bulldogs in Ivy League action at The Palestra.
The Quakers' homestand couldn't have gotten off to a better start, as they shocked the Ivy League with a 79-64 upset of Cornell back on February 12th. Penn though, fell back into its losing ways, dropping the next three games, including an 80-73 setback to Brown last night. It marked the ninth loss in 10 home outings for the Quakers, are now 3-5 in league play.
The Bulldogs meanwhile, are coming off just a poor performance, dropping an 82-58 decision at Princeton last night. It marked the second loss in three games and fourth in six outings, as Yale fell to 10-16 overall and 4-5 within the conference.
As for the all-time series, Penn holds a decisive 142-69 advantage over Yale, although the Bulldogs posted a 61-48 win in the first meeting of the season.
The Bulldogs went just 8-of-19 at the foul line and allowed Princeton to go 13-of-19 from long range in an 82-58 setback last night. Yale also was also dominated on the boards, 39-25, including 16-10 on the offensive glass. Greg Mangano guided the team in defeat with 11 points and five boards, while Alex Zampier chipped in with nine points. On the season, Zampier is averaging a much higher 17.5 ppg to pace Yale and he also has a team-best 54 steals to his credit. Michael Sands follows with 10.5 ppg and he also pulls down 5.7 rpg for Yale.
The Quakers were outscored at the foul line, 20-10, as they suffered an 80-73 loss to Brown last night. Penn, which trailed 41-25 at the break, shot just 30.0 percent from the floor in the first half and was never able to recover. Zack Rosen had a big game with a double-double of 29 points and 10 assists in the loss, while Jack Eggleston pitched in with 16 points and nine rebounds. For the season, Rosen tops the roster in scoring at 17.1 ppg and he is also dishing off a team-high 4.3 apg. Eggleston is next in order at 13.0 and he is the team's second-leading rebounder with 6.3 rpg.
Both teams are coming off a loss, but look for Penn to bounce back behind another big game from Rosen and Eggleston.
