Old Dominion (21-8) at Georgia State (12-17)

GAME NOTES: Currently tied for the top spot in the Colonial Athletic Association, the Old Dominion Monarchs will take on the Georgia State Panthers this evening at the GSU Sports Arena.

The Monarchs took a step out of league play over the weekend and suffered a 71-62 setback to Northern Iowa. However, the team returns to CAA play where ODU is currently 13-3 and tied with Northeastern for first place.

Georgia State also took part in BracketBusters action over the weekend and defeated South Carolina State, 67-52. It was the second straight win for Georgia State, which is a meager 5-11 in conference action.

The Monarchs have won 11 of the 13 matchups against Georgia State, and that includes a 56-40 victory against the Panthers earlier this season.

The Monarchs shot a healthy 46.9 percent from the field, but only finished with 62 points in a loss to Northern Iowa. ODU finished 6-of-19 from behind the arc, and also committed 16 turnovers in the loss. Gerald Lee led the way in the setback with 19 points, while Kent Bazemore tallied 13 points. Old Dominion has been nothing special offensively, and comes into this matchup netting just 66.5 ppg. Lee is the only player netting double figures for ODU, as the forward is averaging 14.2 ppg. What has helped the Monarchs throughout the season has been their play defensively, as ODU is holding teams to just 56.3 ppg.

Scoring has been a major issue for Georgia State, as the team is netting just 61.7 ppg, behind a pedestrian 41.8 percent shooting effort. Joe Dukes is currently leading the team with 12.9 ppg and 111 assists, while Trae Goldston is posting 10.8 ppg. The last time the Panthers were on the floor the team only scored 67 points, but still managed to get past South Carolina State. Georgia State shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the matchup and was paced by Trey Hampton, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Goldston added 13 points, while Ousman Krubally and Dukes posted 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Monarchs are coming off a tough loss, but they should rebound in an impressive way. This is an important game for ODU, which is looking to claim the regular season title in the CAA.
