GAME NOTES: The Arkansas Razorbacks continue their quest for an SEC West Division title as they take on the lowly LSU Tigers tonight in Baton Rouge.
Arkansas is tied atop the standings with Mississippi State in what is clearly the weaker of the two SEC divisions. In addition to the club's 7-5 league ledger, the Razorbacks are 14-13 overall after losses in two of their last three outings. On Saturday, they fell to Auburn in a 92-83 final.
As for LSU, it is still in search of its first conference victory of what has been a forgettable season. The Tigers had a tremendous opportunity to put one in the win column on Saturday against Mississippi State, but the Baton Rouge crowd was sent home disappointed after a 60-59 setback. LSU hasn't won a game since January 4th and currently sits at 9-17 overall, including 0-12 in SEC action.
Just two weeks ago, Arkansas crushed LSU by an 87-52 final, and the Hogs own a 29-20 series advantage over the Tigers.
Arkansas guard Courtney Fortson lead the team in scoring with an impressive average of 19.4 ppg, and he has dished out 79 assists through the 13 games that he has played. Still, there is plenty of room for Fortson to improve, as he is shooting a mere 37.6 percent from the floor. Rotnei Clarke is posting 16.0 ppg on the strength of his tremendous 45.5 percent shooting from three- point range, and Marshawn Powell checks in with 15.5 ppg and 6.7 rpg. Mike Washington rounds out the double-digit scorers with 12.4 ppg for an Arkansas squad that is generating 76.4 ppg while allowing 73.6 ppg. In the recent loss to Auburn, the Razorbacks shot 50 percent from the floor, but they permitted 60.9 percent shooting to the Tigers and were outscored 25-11 from the charity stripe.
Tasmin Mitchell is the leading scorer for LSU this season with 17.6 ppg, and the standout forward is also pulling down 9.6 rpg. Bo Spencer provides 14.7 ppg, but his 33.3 percent shooting from the field is downright horrendous. As for Storm Warren, the third and final double-digit scorer in the fold, he checks in with 12.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg. The Tigers are only scoring 62.4 ppg this season on 40.5 percent field goal efficiency, and the fact that the fourth- leading scorer on the roster is only averaging 4.4 ppg suggests a glaring lack of depth. Against Mississippi State in the one-point loss, Mitchell poured in 25 points. Unfortunately, his Tigers connected on only 36.5 percent of their field goal attempts and added a mere six points from the foul line.
Expect a much more competitive game than the first meeting between these teams. Still, the outcome will be the same.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
