Cal State Fullerton (14-12) at Cal Poly (10-16)

GAME NOTES: The Cal Poly Mustangs open a three-game homestand to close out the regular season as they entertain the Cal State Fullerton Titans in a Big West Conference battle tonight at Mott Gym.

On Saturday, the Mustangs took a break from league play and visited Hawaii out in Honolulu, a meeting that resulted in a 102-89 triumph for Cal Poly. It was the second win in the last three outings for the program, but just the fifth in 17 opportunities on the road in 2009-10.

As for the Titans, they too took part in a BracketBusters event over the weekend and barely slipped by SIU-Edwardsville in a 78-74 final at home. The win was the third in the last four outings and the sixth in eight games.

Cal Poly leads the all-time series by a count of 29-22, but it was Fullerton that posted a 68-54 win last month in the first meeting of the season.

Gerard Anderson logged a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards as he helped the Titans slip by SIU-Edwardsville over the weekend. Jacques Streeter chipped in 20 points and five assists, followed by Devon Peltier and Jer'Vaughn Johnson with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Aaron Thompson added 11 rebounds. Thompson, who finished with just two points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field, is actually the top scorer for the Titans on the season with his 12.1 ppg, shooting not only 51.7 percent from the field but also a staggering 51.8 percent behind the three-point line. Streeter (11.2 ppg) and Peltier (10.2 ppg) have combined with Thompson to register 150 of the team's 181 three-point conversions so far this season.

Lorenzo Keeler made good on all 16 of his free-throw attempts on Saturday night as he finished with a team-best 31 points ain the win over Hawaii at the Stan Sheriff Center. David Hanson added 18 points, Shawn Lewis 17 and eight boards, followed by Kyle Odister and Jordan Lewis with 15 and 12 points, respectively, as the squad shot a blistering 61.5 percent from the field and 11-of-21 behind the three-point line. The scoring outburst for the Mustangs was somewhat rare, given that 14 of their games have seen them tally less than 70 points this season. Keeler heads the list of double-digit scorers with his 16.1 ppg, yet his 39.3 percent shooting from the floor is something that needs to improve drastically down the stretch if the team is going to be taken seriously in the upcoming conference tournament. Shawn Lewis (11.2 ppg) and Hanson (10.3 ppg) are coming along and contributing significantly to the squad's 70.1 ppg, but they still have to handle opponents who are generating 75.7 ppg at the moment.

Perhaps seeing that they can put up points when the conditions are right will give the Mustangs a boost for this meeting, but chances are they still can't get over on Fullerton at home.
