George Mason (16-12) at Delaware (7-21)

GAME NOTES: Tied for third place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, the George Mason Patriots try to finish the regular season strong as they take on the Delaware Blue Hens at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark tonight.

Showing an 11-5 mark in the CAA along with William & Mary, the Patriots have stumbled down the stretch with three straight losses and defeats in five of their last six outings. The squad was upended by the College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon in an 85-83 final at home.

As for the Blue Hens, all alone in last place in the league standings at 3-13, they suffered their fourth straight loss on Saturday as they bowed to visiting Boston University, 78-65. The setback was the seventh in the last eight games for a program that has won only twice since January 3rd.

George Mason won the first meeting of the season with Delaware last month with a 77-66 triumph at home, which means the all-time series now favors the Patriots by a count of 16-7.

The Patriots, playing at home, put six players in double figures on Saturday, but still came up short in the two-point decision against the Cougars from the College of Charleston. Johnny Williams tallied 18 points, Kevin Foster and Ryan Pearson added 13 apiece, followed by Sherrod Wright with 12 points off the bench. Cam Long and Luke Hancock both delivered 10 points and six rebounds and also combined for 11 of the unit's 12 assists in the event. In a game that saw eight ties and seven lead changes, the Patriots shooting only 18-of-31 at the free-throw line proved to be crucial. Long and Pearson are the leading scorers for the Pats with their 12.7 and 11.7 ppg, respectively, the former topping the list in assists with 92 in an effort to gloss over his mere 39.4 percent shooting from the field. Pearson handles much of the action in the paint with his 6.5 rpg, but his mere 65.5 percent accuracy at the free-throw line is indicative of the unit's mere 64.9 percent on the season thus far.

Not only did the Blue Hens shoot just 39 percent from the field and 3-of-18 beyond the arc in their meeting with Boston University over the weekend, the squad also watched as John Holland exploded for a whopping 43 points for the visitors in the 13-point decision. The usually reliable Jawan Carter saw his streak of consecutive games leading Delaware in scoring snapped at eight as he tallied just 12 points, compared to 19 and nine boards for Alphonso Dawson. Jamelle Hagins and Hakim McCullar both tallied 11 points, the former clearing a game-high 11 rebounds as well. Carter (18.1 ppg) and Dawson (12.4 ppg) are the primary options at the offensive end for the Blue Hens, so much so that they have combined to take 740 shot from the field thus far, while the rest of the team has accounted for just 852 attempts altogether. Needless to say, without support from the other characters on the roster, wins have been hard to come by for the Hens and they are now being outscored by nine points per game.

With something still to fight for in the final week of the regular season, the Patriots are not about to let Delaware get in their way, even on the road.
