James Madison (11-17) at Virginia Commonwealth (19-7)

GAME NOTES: The Rams of Virginia Commonwealth seek revenge against the James Madison Dukes as the two teams collide at the Siegel Center in Richmond tonight in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown.

The Rams, who have lost just two times in the last eight games, suffered one of those defeats against JMU on the road but since then the team has bounced back to claim a pair of wins. In addition to topping league foe Drexel at home last week (73-54), VCU also dealt Akron a 70-53 loss on Saturday afternoon.

As for the Dukes, a team that has just a single win in the last seven outings, they've been bounced in two straight. The most recent loss for the program came on Saturday, at the Koessler Center in Buffalo, New York against Canisius in a 70-66 final.

JMU won the first meeting of the season just a couple weeks ago, 76-71, which means the Rams now own a 41-20 edge in the all-time series.

It may not sound like much, but shooting just 9-of-16 at the free-throw line was enough to keep the Dukes out of the win column in their meeting with the Golden Griffins over the weekend. Before fouling out, Julius Wells tried to keep JMU on the right path with his 18 points and five boards, although he shot just 3-of-11 behind the three-point line, while Darren White connected on 4-of-6 on the perimeter on his way to 14 points off the bench. Denzel Bowles, guilty of six turnovers, contributed with 11 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort as well. Bowles, who has been the leading scorer for James Madison more often than not, is responsible for 20.9 ppg and is shooting 58.3 percent from the field. Leading the squad in blocked shots as well with 33 Bowles, who has played in only 20 games, also paces the program with his 9.2 rpg. Wells checks in with 16.7 ppg, which means he and Bowles combine for more than half of the team's 65.9 ppg this season.

VCU allowed the visitors to score the first basket of the game on Saturday and then came roaring back by holding Akron to a mere 31.8 percent shooting from the field for the entire game. Larry Sanders limited himself by playing only 20 minutes before fouling out, yet he still dialed up 15 points and nine rebounds in the victory, while reserve Brandon Rozzell checked in with 13 points. Jamie Skeen accounted for 11 points, while teammates Ed Nixon and Darius Theus tossed in 10 apiece. Sanders, who has led the team in both scoring and rebounding in each of the last three outings, is tops in both categories on the season overall with his 15.4 ppg and 9.1 rpg, not to mention logging 64 of the squad's 103 blocked shots as well. Joey Rodriguez, one of only two players to have started all 26 games, adds 11.6 ppg and a team-best 157 assists as the program outscores opponents by an even 10 ppg.

Not only are the Rams looking for payback, the squad has also been nearly unbeatable at home this season, which means everything is working in their favor tonight.
