La Salle (11-15) at George Washington (14-11)

GAME NOTES: The La Salle Explorers try to snap a six-game slide tonight as they visit fellow Atlantic 10 Conference member George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

The Explorers have gone almost a month without a victory, their last coming against a weak Fordham squad back on January 27th. Most recently the team, which is now just 3-9 in conference, was defeated by St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon, 77-66.

As for the Colonials, their upset bid versus nationally-ranked Richmond on Saturday night came up short as well as they stalled in a 74-70 decision on the road. The setback snapped a brief two-game win streak by a GW squad that is in the lower half of the league standings at just 4-8 at the moment.

La Salle won the first meeting with the Colonials by a single point last month, 65-64, in Philadelphia which means the all-time series now numbers 17-10 in favor of George Washington.

Steve Weingarten had a career day on Sunday with his 18 points and 17 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the Explorers as they still suffered the double-digit loss to the Bonnies at home. Also registering a double-double for La Salle was Jerrell Williams with 13 points and 14 boards, while Aaric Murray contributed with 13 points, seven boards and five blocked shots and Rodney Green tallied 11 points and seven assists in the setback. Trying to function with a depleted roster, the Explorers have just two active players scoring in double figures at the moment in Green (18.1 ppg) and Murray (12.3 ppg), the former also leading the group in both assists (108) and steals (42) as well. With more playing time on the way, Weingarten should see his averages of 5.1 ppg and 4.3 rpg increase dramatically for a squad that is still averaging almost 40 rpg and better than 70 ppg.

Against a Richmond team that finally made it into the national rankings after a long break in between appearances, the Colonials nearly pulled off the upset on the road as Lasan Kromah tallied 25 points and eight rebounds in the mere four-point setback. Tony Taylor, the only other player in double figures for George Washington, checked in with 14 points and seven of the team's 11 assists, but he also turned the ball over five times. Kromah, named the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, averaged 23.5 ppg in the two games for the squad last week and is now second on the unit with his 12.0 ppg overall, trailing only Damian Hollis and his 13.7 ppg. Quick hands that can distribute the ball as well as collect rebounds and register steals, Kromah's one weakness at this point is his mere 50 percent shooting at the free-throw line, something that makes him a liability in close contests. Then again, the team as a whole is shooting just 64.7 percent at the stripe, so everyone is guilty of poor accuracy for the most part.

There is only so much that a short bench and a tired bunch of Explorers can get done at this late stage of the season. The squad might put up a strong fight, but in the end GW simply has too many options to turn to at home.
