Memphis (20-7) at Houston (13-13)

GAME NOTES: The Memphis Tigers will try to stretch their winning streak to five games tonight, as they invade Hofheinz Pavilion to battle the Houston Cougars in Conference USA action.

Winners of four straight and seven of their last nine games, the Tigers have moved into sole possession of second place in C-USA at 10-2. Most recently, Memphis avenged one of its conference losses with a 76-63 besting of SMU on Saturday. With the outcome, Memphis notched its 10th straight 20-win campaign and 12th consecutive season with at least 10 conference victories.

Houston meanwhile, has dropped two straight and four of its last six outings to fall to just 5-7 within the conference. On Saturday, the Cougars were downed at UAB, 75-66, as they dropped to a level 13-13 overall.

As for the all-time series, Memphis owns a 24-10 advantage over Houston and the Tigers have won the past 11 meetings, including a 92-77 triumph last month.

The Tigers went an impressive 15-of-30 from beyond the arc, as they defeated SMU over the weekend. Memphis also shot a solid 48.0 percent from the floor and converted 13-of-15 free-throw attempts. Elliot Williams had 16 points and four helpers to lead the charge, while Roburt Sallie and Wesley Witherspoon tallied 15 points apiece. For the season, Williams is clearly the go-to-guy for Memphis, as he averages a hardy 19.1 ppg to go with 4.1 rpg and 3.9 apg. Witherspoon is a distant second with 12.4 ppg, while Sallie and Doneal Mack check in with 10.9 and 10.5 ppg, respectively.

The Cougars shot a horrific 33.8 percent from the field, including a poor 5- of-19 performance from three-point land, as they were beat by UAB on Saturday. Aubrey Coleman guided Houston in the loss with a 20-point effort, while Zamal Nixon posted 15 points and three steals off the bench. On the season, Coleman is netting a national-best 25.4 ppg and he also leads the Cougars with 7.4 rpg and 75 steals. Kelvin Lewis has provided a nice complement to Coleman with 15.0 pg and 51 steals, although he was held without a point last game.

The Tigers are on a roll and another balanced effort should lift them over the Cougars tonight.
