GAME NOTES: Still searching for their first league win, the Toledo Rockets host the Western Michigan Broncos this evening at Savage Arena.
The Broncos were embarrassed in a BracketBusters matchup against Southern Illinois this weekend, as the Salukis pounded WMU, 89-72. It was the fourth loss in the last six matchups for Western Michigan, which is just 6-7 in conference action.
The Rockets have been terrible throughout the season, losing 25 of their 28 games, and that includes an 18-game slide. Toledo has dropped all 13 of its league affairs, but the last time the team was on the floor the Rockets were defeated by Cleveland State in a BracketBusters matchup, 87-63.
Earlier this season the Broncos grabbed a 73-41 victory over Toledo, but despite the loss the Rockets still own a commanding 76-52 edge over WMU in the all-time series.
The Broncos have relied heavily on the play of David Kool, as the guard has been one of the top players in the conference. Kool is currently leading Western Michigan with 21.5 ppg, and that goes along with 4.0 rpg and 69 assists. Martelle McLemore is the only other player netting double figures, as the forward is posting 11.6 ppg, to go along with 5.4 rpg. The last time the Broncos took the floor the team shot just 36.8 percent, and finished with a 6- of-20 clip from behind the arc in a loss to Southern Illinois. Kool was just 4-of-19 in the matchup, but finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Flenard Whitfield added a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Demetrius Ward tallied 12 points.
Toledo's problems have occurred at the offensive end of the court, as the team is netting just 54.9 ppg, behind a 41.0 percent shooting effort. Jake Barnett is the only player averaging double figures on the season for the Rockets, as the guard is netting 13.0 ppg, to go along with 4.3 rpg. The last time Toledo was in action the team shot a sizzling 56.8 percent from the floor, but finished with just 63 points in a loss to Cleveland State. Barnett paced the team in the loss with 15 points, while Justin Anyijong and Jordan Dressler tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Rockets have been dreadful throughout the season and even though the team is home, it will not make much difference against Western Michigan, which possesses one of the most dangerous players in the league.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
