GAME NOTES: Horizon League action will take place this evening when the Cleveland State Vikings host the Detroit Titans at the Wolstein Center.
The last time the Titans were in action the team grabbed a 68-66 victory over Eastern Michigan in BracketBusters action. It was just the second win in the last seven games for Detroit, which is a mere 7-9 in Horizon League action.
The Vikings snapped a three-game slide in their recent matchup, as they defeated Toledo 87-63 in a BracketBusters showdown as well. Cleveland State has been mediocre in league action, posting a 9-7 ledger, but at home the Vikings have played well, collecting an 11-4 mark at the Wolstein Center.
Earlier this season the Titans posted a 69-62 victory over Cleveland State, and now own a 33-14 advantage in the all-time series.
The Titans held off a late run by Eastern Michigan in their last contest to grab a hard-fought two-point victory. Detroit shot 46.9 percent from the field in the win and was led by Thomas Kennedy's 15-point effort. Eli Holman added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Woody Payne tallied a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists. Leading the team on the season has been Chase Simon, who is netting 14.6 ppg, to go along with 5.3 rpg and 71 assists. Xavier Keeling is posting 12.2 ppg, while Kennedy and Holman are contributing 11.3 ppg apiece. Kennedy is also leading the squad with 8.5 rpg.
The Vikings destroyed Toledo in their last contest, scoring 87 points in an easy victory. Cleveland State shot a staggering 64.0 percent from the floor and finished 11-of-17 from behind the arc. Norris Cole led the way with 18 points and also dished out six assists. Charlie Woods posted 15 points off the bench, while Jeremy Montgomery posted 14 points, to go along with a team-best eight assists. D'Aundray Brown also contributed 14 points, while Tim Kamczyc chipped in 12 points. Cole is currently leading the team with 16.4 ppg and 120 assists, while Montgomery is contributing 12.7 ppg. As a whole, the Vikings are producing a mediocre 69.2 ppg behind a 43.7 percent shooting effort.
The Vikings are coming off an impressive win over Toledo, and should continue their solid play this evening against Detroit.
