Georgia (12-13) at (16) Vanderbilt (20-6)

GAME NOTES: The Georgia Bulldogs are still in search of their first true road win of the season, but they are clearly underdogs tonight against the 16th- ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in SEC action.

Wins in two of the last three outings have enabled Georgia to move to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in SEC action, records that aren't impressive by any means. The team defeated Alabama on Saturday by a 76-70 final, but the level of competition increases tonight. Despite some close calls, all nine true road games have ended in defeat for the Bulldogs.

Vanderbilt nearly knocked off national powerhouse Kentucky on Saturday, but the home crowd was sent home disappointed after a 58-56 loss. That setback halted a three-game win streak for the Commodores, who are 20-6 overall and 9-3 in league action. Considered a lock to be in the field for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt is now playing to improve its seeding, and the team carries a 13-1 home record into this evening's affair.

On February 6th, Georgia beat Vanderbilt by a 72-58 final, but the Commodores still own an 80-47 lead in the all-time series.

Trey Thompkins is not often mentioned among the best players in the SEC, but his numbers suggest that the Georgia forward should enter that discussion. Thompkins has scored 21 or more points in three consecutive outings and is averaging 17.6 ppg on 49.8 percent shooting from the field. More than just a scorer, the standout is ripping down 8.2 rpg. Travis Leslie provides 14.2 ppg for the Bulldogs, who are getting 10.0 ppg from Ricky McPhee. Georgia is generating 67.9 ppg while allowing 68.2 ppg to its opponents. In the win over Alabama last time out, Georgia pulled away by shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half. A 39-27 rebounding advantage also helped the cause for the Bulldogs, who got 21 points and 17 rebounds from Thompkins.

There are four double-digit scorers in the fold for Vanderbilt, which is generating 77.7 ppg while allowing 68.3 ppg on 41 percent shooting from the field. Jermaine Beal is tops with 14.4 ppg, and Jeffery Taylor adds 14.2 ppg on the strength of his 52.5 percent shooting from the floor. A.J. Ogilvy, the team's center, brings 13.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg to the mix, while John Jenkins provides 10.0 ppg. Ogilvy had a chance to force overtime against Kentucky, but his runner at the buzzer missed its mark. The Commodores shot a lowly 32.1 percent from the floor in that contest, including 2-of-20 from three-point range. Taylor scored 17 points for Vandy, which turned the ball over 15 times.

Expect the Commodores to avenge the earlier loss to Georgia with a double- digit triumph. The Bulldogs will remain winless in true road games.
