(17) Wisconsin (20-7) at Indiana (9-17)

GAME NOTES: The 17th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers invade Assembly Hall in Bloomington tonight for a Big Ten Conference clash with the Indiana Hoosiers.

Wisconsin has won two of its last three games to move to 20-7 overall and 10-5 in league action. The Badgers are coming off a 70-63 triumph over Northwestern on Sunday, but they carry a lackluster 3-5 record in true road games into this evening's affair. Wisconsin continues to look up at Purdue, Michigan State and Ohio State in the race for the Big Ten crown, so a slip up against the Hoosiers here would be disastrous.

As for Indiana, it has suffered eight consecutive defeats, as the most recent win for the team occurred more than a month ago. The Hoosiers are 9-17 overall, including 3-11 in conference, and they are coming off an 81-58 road beating at Minnesota.

Less than two weeks ago, Wisconsin crushed Indiana by an 83-55 final, overshadowing the fact that the Hoosiers still own a 93-60 advantage in the all-time series.

Trevon Hughes enters this game as the leading scorer for Wisconsin with 15.4 ppg, and he is also tops with 45 steals. Jon Leuer provides 14.5 ppg on 50.8 percent shooting from the floor, and he leads the way with 5.8 rpg. Jason Bohannon (12.4 ppg) and Jordan Taylor (10.0 ppg) have proven capable of contributing on a consistent basis for the Badgers, who are posting 67.4 ppg while holding opponents to 57.1 ppg. In the recent victory over Northwestern, Bohannon scored 17 points, while Taylor tallied 16. Hughes provided 13 points, and Leuer rounded out the foursome with 11 points for Wisconsin, which shot 51.3 percent from the field and earned a 25-16 rebounding advantage. A 23-17 edge in points from the foul line also helped the cause.

Indiana is one of the nation's youngest teams, and the club lost standout Maurice Creek (16.4 ppg) after only 12 games. Verdell Jones III is now the leading active scorer for the Hoosiers with 14.6 ppg, and Christian Watford provides 12.3 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Unfortunately, those two players don't get much help from their supporting cast. Indiana is generating 67.3 ppg while allowing 70.7 ppg to opponents. In the ugly loss to Minnesota last Saturday, the Hoosiers shot just 32.2 percent from the floor while allowing 55.4 percent shooting to the Golden Gophers. Jones and Jeremiah Rivers scored 10 points apiece in the setback, and a 40-32 rebounding deficit certainly didn't help matters for Indiana.

Expect yet another loss for Indiana, as Wisconsin is clearly the better team in this matchup. The Hoosiers will be much more formidable next season.
