Niagara (16-13) at Manhattan (10-17)

GAME NOTES: The Niagara Purple Eagles will try to continue their late season charge, as they tangle with the Manhattan Jaspers tonight in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference affair at Draddy Gym.

The Eagles are starting to peak right before the MAAC Tournament, as they have won three straight and five of their last six outings. Most recently, the team took a break from league play and scored an 85-79 victory at Wisconsin- Milwaukee on Saturday. Niagara now returns to MAAC play, where it is an even 8-8 and tied with Rider for fifth place.

Manhattan meanwhile is just 4-12 in league play and will take on Loyola Maryland in the opening round of the conference tourney a week from today. The Jaspers have won three of their past five outings and that includes a 78-62 non-conference victory over Towson on Saturday.

The Jaspers own a 42-26 all-time record against Niagara, although the Eagles trounced Manhattan, 88-64, back in December.

The Eagles broke a 74-74 tie with an 11-5 spurt over the final 1:58 of regulation, as they came away with a victory over UWM this past weekend. It was clearly a strong finish for Niagara, which shot 52.7 percent from the floor, including 10-of-21 from downtown, for the game. Tyrone Lewis led the charge with 23 points on 6-of-12 shooting from long range, while Bilal Benn posted 19 points and eight rebounds. On the campaign, Lewis averages 16.7 ppg to pace Niagara and he is a 35.4 percent three-point shooter. Benn almost produces a double-double with 13.6 ppg and a team-high 9.9 rpg and he also dishes out 3.3 apg. Rob Garrison adds 11.0 ppg and 4.4 rpg, while Anthony Nelson contributes 10.2 ppg and a team-best 5.0 apg.

Manhattan opened the game with a 20-0 run and never looked back en route to a 78-62 win over Towson this past weekend. The Jaspers shot 53.0 percent from the floor for the game and handed out 22 assists to only 10 turnovers. Brandon Adams led the charge with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Rico Pickett turned in 17 points and five assists. Pickett is the team's leading scorer on the season at 17.8 ppg and he also has 32 steals to his name. Darryl Crawford is another solid option at 14.5 ppg and he also grabs a team-best 6.0 rpg.

The Eagles are on a nice run right now and they should be able to continue things against a Manhattan club that hasn't won back-to-back games since November.
