Penn (5-18) at Columbia (9-15)

GAME NOTES: The Penn Quakers and the Columbia Lions will meet tonight in an Ivy League clash at Levien Gym in Manhattan.

Penn carried a three-game losing streak into last Saturday's matchup with Yale, but that game resulted in an 81-69 triumph. The Quakers are now 5-18 overall and 4-5 in league play. They actually have more true road wins than home victories this season, a claim that can't be made by many teams nationally.

As for Columbia, it has lost its last two games and four of the last five to fall to 9-15 overall and 3-7 in conference action. The Lions fell to Harvard last Saturday in a 77-57 final on the road, but there is some reason for optimism tonight, as more than half of their home games have resulted in victory.

Columbia beat Penn by a 66-62 final on February 13th, but the Quakers still own a 133-83 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.

Penn is generating 63.0 ppg this season on 40.2 percent shooting from the floor, so it is obvious that generating offense has been a glaring weakness. Defensively, the club is permitting 74.1 ppg to opponents on 48 percent field goal efficiency. The play of Zack Rosen has been a bright spot for the Quakers, as he is scoring 17.6 ppg on the strength of his 40.7 percent accuracy from three-point range. Rosen has also dished out 101 assists to lead the club by a wide margin in that category. Jack Eggleston is the only other double-digit scorer in the fold, as he deposits 13.0 ppg to complement his 6.5 rpg. Against Yale last time out, Rosen poured in 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Dan Monckton tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Eggleston scored 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Noruwa Agho is the only double-digit scorer on the Columbia roster, as he is netting 16.6 ppg on the strength of his 46.4 percent shooting from behind the arc. The Lions are averaging 61.0 ppg this season on 41 percent from the floor, so they, like Penn, have a hard time getting the job done offensively. They are allowing 66.0 ppg to foes and permitted Harvard to shoot 50 percent from the field en route to 77 points last Saturday. Columbia connected on only 38.9 percent of its field goal attempts in that affair and found itself down by 19 points at halftime. Agho scored 18 points in that tilt, and Niko Scott finished with 11.

Expect Penn to beat Columbia on the road, earning the Quakers a season series split. Rosen is on a major role and won't be stopped by the Lions.
